Biographical Data
Ethan Hargrove was hatched to Lucian and Alina Hargrove of Tannaris, a land to the far east of the mainland and across the ocean from the Talwyn Nation. As a young man, Ethan was dissatisfied with his life and left to travel across the sea where he met a stallion named Rhodes. He became friends with the Gypsy vanner horse and the two soon bought a cart and left Sadriel to find a life together.
As partners, Rhodes was the front man while Ethan would do everything else their business required like preparing the campsites and keeping track of their stock. The two would follow a semi regular route heading to the coast and then back around.
Personal Statement
"My name is Ethan Hargrove. I'm a traveling merchant along with my partner and best friend, Rhodes Lawson. We travel around the east and central regions of Akaeria, selling our clothes and jewelry to the villages, towns, and cities we travel through. Rhodes handles the customers, he's much better at talking to people than I am. He knows how to entice folks to look closer and make a deal both sides are happy with. He and I pride ourselves on a fair product for a fair price. While I've always thought one should do business fairly with Rhodes it's a matter of honor. I don't really know why but I don't disagree with it, so we get along fine.
We always make money, especially if we're working together. I keep the cart running and he keeps the merchandise flowing in and out of it. Together we go from place to place and often stay in the woods in our cart to save money, but it's a pleasant existence. All that really matters is the company.
I met him a long time ago after I came across the sea from my homeland of Tannaris. There was some stuff going on back then, I don't really want to talk about my past. Let's just say it wasn't right for me, so I left. I came upon Rhodes as he was traveling with his father's cart of goods and a few bandits were trying to steal his stuff. I intervened and together we fought them off. Afterwards he offered me a job as his partner, and seeing as I had no other prospects at the time, I agreed.
For the next couple of years everything was pretty normal and quiet. I almost began to forget where I came from, which I took as a blessing. Then I met her. One day I saw a young Doberman woman in the marketplace of some town we were visiting. I didn't know her story, but she looked so scared. I couldn't leave her there, so I hid her in my cart. Rhodes was mad at first, but he couldn't turn her away even after the Red Guard had showed us a poster with her face on it. I don't know why they want her but she's done nothing wrong.
I will help her find her way home, even if it means her walking out of my life forever... Love's like that sometimes, isn't it?
Damn it."

Ooh, neat. I was just planning on nosing through your personal gallery to see if you had any more art of Ethan, so this is good timing. While I've still only read a couple of chapters of his story, I find I really like him. I can certainly sympathize with his feelings for Diana and the way he's kind of torn between wanting to help her get home and not wanting to lose her forever. Though, from the sounds of it, there's not a whole lot to keep him from going with her. He certainly doesn't seem to have anything he'll miss about his life before he hit the road. Though, as I think I've said, I'm sure we'll find out more about that than he'd want anyone to know in time.
There's some, not a whole lot. I admit to favoring the girls prior to now for purely selfish reasons but with our plans shifting odds are I'll definitely be reorienting my focus for what art I seek for the foreseeable future. I think you'll enjoy the comic when I start posting it here which is set to continue sometime soon. All of the major stories have a comic that was originally going to be where each series began, until things shifted and then shifted back.
I'm glad you like him. A lot of his story developed as I went. When I began developing a fantasy setting I created Diana first and then thought about her origins. When that was done, I kind of think I just fell into the idea of Ethan and Rhodes being partners who bumped into her in the marketplace, and in turn got their fourth member, an Oracle. I'd planned to keep this cast smaller, though it does grow later, since traveling often keeps the number of characters you can use effectively a little smaller. While Ethan may not miss his past, it's still a part of him, and lets not forget that Aldris has been isolated for a long time so they may or may not be super keen on visitors/immigration. While I'm sure she would welcome him with open arms wherever they ended up, he knows it may not be that simple. As for most characters worth following, he's got opposite objectives which he is hoping it'll be a long time before he has to choose one or the other.
Once I get some more stuff situated more of the Journeys art I do have will make it's way over here. For now I'm trying to keep all of what I put up in a sort of logical order. ;)
