Join in on your topic, I do think its pretty sad that the media can (and will) write off anything in a biased opinion just to get out "the news".

For an example there was a news article not long ago calling out a Wii game called "Animal Crossing" for allowing young children to "talk with anyone in the nation" with "no idea" whom they could be talking too. The news caster went as far as to point out an NPC in the game and mention that said NPC could very well be a child predator using the game to contact small children.

Anyone who has ever played Animal Crossing will instantly see the flaw in that news report.. but that didn't stop the station from passing it off as fact rather then a complete, downright lie.


Furries, in general, just dabble in too many things that people consider "taboo" for us not to get a bum rep, I guess. Its nothing that we can really help. We'll probably always be generalised as freaks who do "disturbing, depraved things".

Then again.. its not like furries are the only classification of people who instantly get stereotyped, either =p

in response to the game thing, video games have been under SUCH scrutiny for no reason. the church actually wanted resistance fall of man pulled from the shelfs, and a written apalogy from the game makers and x amount of dollars donated to the curch, you know why?

I HATE when people think that this is the ONLY branch in the furry fandom. That's like saying if you're into videogames that all gamers like racing games and racing games only. No. There's a variety of ways to be a furry, be it if you suit up, draw anthromorphic characters, or just admire the work they've done and attend furry cons. Some are furries and dont like the idea of yiffing so furries aren't perverted as everyone out of the fandom makes it out to be. xD

lol at "the media twists things" no it didn't. The kid saw fursuit sex, which makes me wonder if the person who posted them put up any kind of warning, or where this kid was searching. But the images don't need misinterpretation, they're like any other picture people see - and assume worlds from.

I think they're overreaction to ONE fan's slipup is pathetic though. Take that kid to a therapist, ask the site he went to to have some kind of warning, and get over it.

I do think people are in their right to think things are perverted, and the furry population being so chock full of unhealthy sexual obsessions (not bashing the fetishes, just the mentality) NO SHIT WE'RE GONNA GET LABELED AS FREAKS. DUH.

Maybe WE should think a little more about what we put out there and what WE do to make the world assume we're freaks. Traditionally, most of the fetishes in this fandom are considered freakish or wrong, not just cause it's "furry". Also, jeez, every fandom gets this treatment, every thing gets this treatment actually. So whatever.

I'm tired of people who KNOW they have offbeat obsessions complaining how everyone else should just accept them. No they shouldn't, no one should just do anything just because it'll make you happier. If you really want to be productive, calmly post some information explaining the furry fandom and what it is to you. If someone insists otherwise, ask em how they would know and walk away.

I think this article was fair. Its comments about the fandom were actually just quotes from the school Dr., so....it wasn't judging us really. Its use of descriptive words seemed rather conservative, a tad vague sometimes, and ...therefore...it's not bad press, it's just press. Considering what they could have done...yeah actually this article is tame and I approve.
