The Lionfish Class Fire Support Frigate was based on the proven frame of the Elco Class Patrol Ship, but was vastly modified. The Lionfish boasts more weapons, including two hard mounted heavy particle cannons, one per side (which would be used as a last resort, as it depleted ALL energy upon firing). These same heavy particle cannons would later see use aboard the Winslow Class Destroyer in a successful way. During the Earth-Minbari War, one design had slightly more success then the Lionfish when it came to the heavy particle cannons, but not by much, that design was the Blitzeinschlag Class Destroyer.
