The Iowa Class Heavy Cruiser was introduced after the Earth-Minbari War just after the launch of the Omega Class Destroyer line and came about as a means of rebuilding partially damaged Hyperion Class Cruisers and Hyperion variants left over from the war. The first vessel of this class to be built was the EAS Iowa, which performed above expectations.
