Unlike the fickle, and humanized Gods and goddesses of Ancient Greece, the Ancient Egyptian deities were always aloof and distant. They chose the mortals they interacted with according to prewritten rules, and judged them in the Duat based on the value of their worshipper’s hearts.

What they do is preordained, who they afflict, and who they exalt, and where their sacred lands are. Like the ground you two are treading upon. Perhaps you don’t know why you arrived here, farther south than where you meant to be, though you feel you were guided here.

You were.

Something intangible had brought here you to these ruins, to this pyramid and it’s broken temple. Here you felt a renewed purpose, a new energy, descending from above. It arced through the air, and towards both of you. It would change both of you, albeit differently. Blessings from forgotten gods suffused you, compelling you to become champions, and guard their ruined temple precincts.

The first to enter the ruined court was given the favor of Anubis, while the second was favored by Sobek. Bodies grew, and forms warped, and new duties were borne. Two new guardians, two new protectors, remade in the images of their forgotten patrons.
