In the 1960s, NASA and the Department of Defense contracted McDonnel Douglas and the Bendix corporation to modify eight Boeing C-135s, equipping them with a seven-foot (2.1 meter) antenna dish. The EC-135N A/RIA served for 32 years, supporting the US space program and military roles.
