*grins* Ah, but just how 'crazy' is he? Free room and board and folks who will listen to his tales without laughing. He seems to have figured something out. *chuckles*
If you'd like a little insight to Mr. Flepps true identity, have a little Google at that list of Names Vargr gave him. *winks*

Ah, the mysterious, mad, marvelous Mr. Flepps!
It's okay to feel confused about him - he causes that state in a lot of folks. *grins*
There are obvious meanings and shades of meaning and underlying meanings in almost every sentence or word he used in that passage. Wuff might recommend you do a bit of Google searching on the words he called Vargr there, or some of the other names.
Some of Flepp's statements were also foreshadowing - such as the warning about "The house of Mars". Wuffy doesn't want to say too much more of that, since that chapter hasn't been finished and posted yet. Others you already read about in the story, such as the Unicorn (but how did HE know, all locked in within the Asylum?).
But, as for why Vargr recognized him and called him those names; they've met before! As the wuff mentioned in other areas of the currently posted story, this isn't the first time Vargr has been the protector of one who was able to use the magic. He's been around before.
And Mr. Flepps? He's been around a LOT more! And in that time, he's learned a lot about the world; both the seen, and the unseen. It's a bit of a spoiler, so wuff won't post it all here. However, if you follow this link, you might learn a lot more about why Mr. Flepps is more than what he seems: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wandering_Jew
Got to be careful with Vargr's stories - sometimes they encourage folks to think and explore. *chuckles*
