Dont worry, initially I was crappy too! I just kept practicing and studying here and there.
I actually wanted to add more mechanical detail to the leg, but was unsure how, and just followed the ref sheet. And tried to make it look like armoured plating by giving them some physical emphasis and some slight gaps.
