Reeeeally getting annoyed by this crap now. I wanted to help my startup speed alittle and I didn't really need all my messengers loading up on me at startup and lagging the frick out of me and allowing everyone to IM me before I could turn them back off, so I went here to disable them and as soon as I left the screen and went to it again the damn fuckers added themselves back just like that. I should so file complaints to mircosoft and all these IM providers. This is stupid, it just overrides my commands and does whatever the heck it feels like... This could even poise as a hack, because their overriding my setting without my permission. Hyena is very displeased! >:(

I use Trillian; I also strongly advocate AVOIDING registry cleaning products They can cause a lot more trouble than they're worth; the registry is something that no-one was meant to muck around in, unless you're a very competent tech; and usually a programmer too,
Scary stuff in there.
Aside from that though you can set the messengers to disable their own autostartup sequence; this is usually much more reliable than trying to block them with defender or something similar.

I figured it out thanks to some friends. Have to kill it in the program itself. Still when you use msconfig, a program shouldn't be able to override that because the program itself had the option checked to sign on at startup and I don't think those should be checked and on by default on IM installation either. Anyways, I got them to stay off on startup now, cut my load time from 30 seconds to THREE seconds. Fast stuff, if I get a registry cleaner and stuff, my computer will be like it were completely brand new. Heck it still runs almost perfectly everyday, the work to maintain that doesn't bother me at all. :p
Hehe, I might look into it tomorrow night. I'm off tomorrow night. Sorry for not coming and chatting lately, it's been a hellish week. I got some bad news too. T-T My next 2 days off on a row are going to be Saturday and Sunday... When you're parents are home right? ...so meh, won't be able to see you then unless maybe we go to the mall, but you know how I feel able playtime there. x,x;
Does msconfig still work as a runnable thingy? Just hit Windows Key+R and type msconfig in, and go to the startup tab, then untick the stuff you don't want starting up with ya. That, or go to your startup programs folder and manually remove the programs from it.
try going into the preferences in Yahoo and Messenger to uncheck "Open on startup". If you already did that then i would uninstall and reinstall. If it keeps doing then should complain to the companies. Im no techie guy but just my opinion that would be the most to do. Im not sure on Vistas settings, XP never had that problem except for it sucking up every freakin spyware and virus as possible >_>.
Yah, I fixes it. Still, I never checked it to sign in on startup, it was done by default, which I don't like, and even so, they still shouldn't be allowed if they are set to by the computer itself. Nothing should be allowed to override the computers system configuration, even if the program itself has the option on.
