That's what I hope as well. She's an otherwise sane and hardworking person who's, presumably, done a great deal for her job so I think she's more than earned some understanding and support. I mean, not knowing all of the details of why she had the breakdown, my first thought would be that she drove herself to the brink with overworking herself probably coupled with some other personal issues. Having an accident on the floor REALLY isn't helping her situation, but I think her psychiatrist can confirm she was having incontinence issues before her emotional state got this bad.
my exact thoughts.
Best case, she goes for a bit found not to be a danger to anyone and the lion boy (can't remember his name) ends up her guardian while she recovers more. Doubt she'll ever be able to go back to court after that. Either through legal means (being disbarred ... though thats a stretch) or just the social dogma of what happened keeping her away

"Lion boy" is Paul, "Gem's" or rather Sam's (the artist's name is Sam) in real life husband and daddy figure already, she uses this "lion boy" as Paul's sona when she needs to draw him, for badges at cons, and well for the love interest for her squirrel sona's romantic interest. 🌈 🌟 the more you know!!
She had a dream quite a few pages ago that started the exact same way. Same judge, same case, same solicitor, and the same thing happened with the case file being a picture book in her hands, and it ended horribly for her in the dream, so naturally, it's scaring her right out of her skull.
Here's the start of the dream: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8401241

Thanks. I've read the whole thing and couldn't remember this from so long ago! Makes a *bit* more sense now...
OBVIOUSLY childhood trauma welling itself up with the grown stress of her life... Should've listened to her therapist but she still has Paul and they'll probably sort out her problems much more efficiently TOGETHER now.
Her job is probably done though... she had prior knowledge of being unfit for work and continued anyways... but i have a feeling they'll be understanding and everything will go OK.
Oh cr*p i just remembered... this was televised... ... The father/step-father are gonna see this... X_X

Agreed, it's not an ugly situation any way you slice it. :/
I've seen a coworker have a similar breakdown under similar circumstances (overworked coupled with a tall stack of personal issues all coming down at once). A few of us who were there for it had to make a statement to our HR dept. but after a few weeks off and presumably some counseling, he was back at work and none of us breathed another word about it. Though my coworker's breakdown wasn't reported on the news, and he also didn't pee on himself... gosh, doing literally anything but that would have been better; if she'd just freaked out and sprinted from the court room, that would have been more excusable

That's quite a revealing shirt for court room attire. While I think its a nice view I can't help but think its not very professional looking. Aaaaand oy. Too much for her to handle. The past is catching up to her too quickly. Once she gets past this she should be ok. I hope to get some insight to what happened to her mom. Got a feeling (i hope) we are going to see what happened. Plus some insight to that court room dream where we saw the judge and this chick in.
actually that wasn't Souffle who made the dementia drug, that was Jack her dad who made the dementia drug. Remember he also tried to force Nicole to abandon Gem which Nicole didn't do and instead took the kids with her to Souffle. I suspect that led to a messy divorce case.
And if that's the truth and Nicole won custody of all three of her kids that would set Jack off the deep end.

Wait what? I thought Gem was born out of wedlock, (meaning her mommy's husband's brother is the father), so the scientist uncle, who is her mommy's husband, came home and insisted Gem was evicted cause he didn't like her since she was an example or evidence of her mommy's adultery or lack of loyalty.
That's how I saw it.

it's true. Gem is jack's daughter. He's denying her cause he believes she's Souffle's daughter though he and Nicole never slept together. it's clear as day when Nicole and Souffle talked during Gem's birthday party when she told him that Jack wanted her to put Gem up for adoption, that and you have to remember Jack lied to Gem when he told her his "story".
*nods* yeah. hopefully we'll know more of the truth later on in the comic.
For now let's see what else happened in court. since Gem is reliving her nightmare, the next logical state is her either freaking out seeing her dad leaving the court or hallucinating Paul abandoning her like in the nightmare.

Actually maybe Jack does show up but not in the courtroom. He's had time to think it over, back when he likely have Gem her first bit of stress when she was really an infant, even if she didn't know it. He made a medicine to cure dementia. I don't know what brings it on but I'm sure a tired mind is one thing and Gem's job or life is kind of a stressful one. Everyone has flaws and hers is possibly in the form of early signs of dementia.
What I'm getting at is he appears in the hospital and gives Gem the PROPER medicine, apologizing for what he did in the past. Sure it sounds far fetched but Gem needs it.

Oh, didn't know that. (Then again that would explain why Zee showed up to her as an adult and child in dream but both times supportive, even tried to save her.
And yeah about the hallucination but wouldn't he appear in the courtroom if were a hallucination? (After all, do they not mention her name AND possibly, further on in the report, show her photo or the incident, on the NEWS? )

That is what you call a mental breakdown... surely she'll get a break due to the psychologist records and attestment due to her peers... this case was stressing her out, and Paul leaving seemed to trip her over the scales... not to mention it was too similar to an embarrassing dream she had XD just bad luck all around
I have to remember that this isn't 'real', that it's nothing but a story, the fruit of a very talented and creative mind.
I feel horrible for Gemma. In most places, it would be the end of her career. Of course, we don't know how it turns out here. We'll find out, eventually, of course. Sam said a while ago there were only 35 pages or so left in the story, so there is an awful lot of stuff that needs to be wrapped up here shortly. Of course, considering this event, it's obvious why Gemma isn't being allowed out of the hospital, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if the doctor wouldn't want to commit her to a mental facility for a period of time.
What will she tell Paul, how will she explain all of this to him? Will he still want her? I'm pretty sure the answer will be yes, and for good reason. Paul is a good person. No doubt based on his real life counterpart.
In looking at the paperwork, I didn't see anything there that could be described as a 'clue' as to whom she was seeing, and didn't see Souffle in her memories. Will we, later on?
Only time will tell. Congrats Sam, you're writing a wonderful story, and I'm glad I "Found" it.

I really hope this is a dream. Ive watched this comic for a long time but this most recent portion has been very hard to take. Seeing someone in that sort of condition is a little disturbing, especially to be so exposed in public like that. I just really hope this is a bad dream and not part of the real time progression
