I felt like practicing my drawing skills today. This is a concept drawing for an alien creature from David Brin's Startide Rising. Though the species is his, the design is my own as the book lacks a detailed description. This is actually quite a bit different from my original concept, but almost dead on with a design I thought up yesterday when I decided it would be more interesting if it were not a humanoid species. I'll be making a model of it eventually and you'll get to see a lot more details about the design that I simply didn't include here due to this being only a sketch. I decided to go through the trouble of cleaning the sketch now just in case I decide to revisit and color. If I revisit, I'll put this in scraps.

And yes, if you hadn't noticed, I am very fond of doing "negative" sketches (white on black instead of black on white) when I work on the computer. It's more to prevent eye strain as my eyes easily get irritated if I stare at a mostly white image for a long time.
