Here's a shot of the execution scene from 'To Catch a Demon'. I was a bit reluctant to showcase this owing to its rather violent nature, and I seem to have been posting a lot of dark things recently. But, there is so much wonderful detail in this scene which is simply lost in the comic and I want to give others the chance to appreciate it.
For example, the people filming the execution on their phones, Peony's look of bloodthirsty anticipation, the lip-gloss on the Queen, and the high-tech skyline and poster for "Beauty and the Being" which were was added as an afterthought because the scene looked too medieval.
What actually happened was that I told Merlin to use the Dark Angel capital city as a base ( http://projectfuturecomic.com/darka.....l.php?strip=49 ) and that the exterior scenes in the city should match it. What I forgot to mention was that it's nearly 200 years later and that the King has modernised it somewhat (though like London, it is likely that some of the more central parts have historical buildings that have been preserved as part of its heritage).
And for those wondering, the llama/alpaca guy had it coming. King Fairwater tries to be fair, and has a relatively progressive stance when it comes to crime. Generally speaking, murder will get you about 20 years or so.
If, however, you murder someone specifically because they are of another race, or in this case, string someone up by a lamp-post because they have wings, there's a very good chance you'll end up shorter by a head, as the saying goes.

"I don't like it, Yak. But that's the catch about being King. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to."

I think this still counts as PG since the guy isn't actually dead (yet). For example, the Dr. Who story 'Masque of the Mandragora' does similar. (Heck, even Frozen does this)

was juuuust wondering something silly, stupid, and outrageous at the same time...
what if anti-wing groups in your world were originally formed when someone got pissed off that a feather landed in their expensive bowl of soup. And of course started as a ban, that eventually led to racial hatred, that of course brings us to current events where they lynch anyone with wings. How crazy would that be?

A nice idea, and I might throw something like that into a future story. It would make a nice touch for some anti-wing invective.
Realistically, the reason is that wings and magic are strongly linked. More powerful races such as Demons, Angels and 'cubi can be extremely dangerous, feathery wings or otherwise. Demons in particular revel in their power like kids in a candy shop and will often eat people from the weaker races. Demons are one of the most common creatures around, hence a lot of people extrapolate their violent behaviour to anyone else with wings.
This has led to a very deep racial divide which is only just starting to heal in DMFA. Fairwater wants his city to be all-inclusive and is happy to use the threat of force to make sure everyone gets along. It's not a situation he's particularly fond of, but it's better than the alternative (where, e.g. Tito or Saddam die or are deposed and the country explodes because the harsh dictator was the only thing keeping the warring factions in check)

We recently finished a backstory called 'Heads you lose', which has a pretty high body count. I've been meaning to upload chapters of it grouped into PDFs or something.
In the meantime you can find it here:

It's perhaps worth mentioning that the world my characters inhabit is not terribly friendly. Looking back there's only about two stories I've written where someone doesn't end up losing a head. That said, it's not something I do just out of sheer gratuity - there's always a reason for it, even if it's to prove that to prove someone is nasty/badass or that people really hate 'cubi or something.
Too much gratuitous violence will cause it to lose its effectiveness, and also I'm trying not to exceed a 15 rating too badly since the web host of the comics doesn't want the content to be too explicit.
