Okay, this is more of a joke, but hopefully others will find this funny.
Gordon here is just a donor engine for a very intensive kitbash someone is commissioning me to do for them. So he'll be turned into a Russian Armored train with no face, plated/skirted over drivers and lots and LOTS of armor! but an additional detail I'm adding are scale screw link couplers. They look FAR better than the stock hook-n-loop coupler and are still functional. Here the unpainted brass couplings are just loosely hung on the stock plastic hook. The couplings come with scale hooks and they'll be installed for better realism and performance. but since the couplings were unpainted I thought it'd be funny to call it "Bling". XD

I am Gordon, I pull the express!
I am Fastest, Strongest, The best!
It must be a relatively new design, he has "CGI Face", his old style face had lots of sharper lines, and lots of wrinkles. He's still a Gresley A1 prototype though.
And I'm sure when he becomes a russian armored train, he'll still be the best!

Partially true. The Flying Scotsman is a Gresley A3. Yes, that's an LNER Pacific Class. The Flying Scotsman was retrofitted to an A3 from an A1, as were all other LNER run A1s at the time. Gordon exists in the original A1 configuration. The main give-aways include the dome and funnel, they're less visible on the A3 frame, because it has a bigger boiler.
If you read the TTTE Wiki, it lists him as an A0 class, which is described as being a prototype for the A1 class. Hence my original description of a Gresley A1 Prototype.

I have a 1972 hornby flying scotsman. I also have 2 hornby Thomas's, not entirely sure on age, but the newer one is 1990 at the absolute latest, and half a percy. Yes, half a percy, it uses a standard hornby 4 wheel frame, and for some reason, those motors are FAST, and have a tendancy to fly off your trainset when they get to a bend, it used to be great fun propelling him around my back bedroom when I was a kid x3. I also have a GWR Pannier tank engine, the model that Duck is based on.
Sorry for the late response!
Yes, I'm sure he'll still be the best even as an armored train.
And I think you're right about his face, I much prefer his original "Classic" face as I think it give him more personality as a character. Though that's the artist in me... and I'm also not a fan of the new CGI series... >_<
I really don't fiddle around with much Thomas related stuffs and the only reason I'm using Gordon here is for keeping the overall cost of the kitbash to a minimum. The Commissioner just want's a model for mostly display purposes, but now at least he has an option to run the rain if he wants. DC only sadly, but converting it to DCC would also be costly and beyond my means presently. (seeing as you would have to hard wire a DCC decoder to the motor) Sadly I haven't made much progress on the project yet as there's still a few other things I need in order to start. Namely plastic card/sheet and rivet decals. But in the mean time I'll start prepping the models for their transformation and make a few cardstock mock-ups for the artillery car.

There are certain things I do like, and that I don't like about the CGI Version. Quite often, the things I don't like is how the stories are basically all the same... Either they're introducing someone new, or just playing with a new "Special", but still, the story is the same. The engine fucks up, usually by not listeneing to orders, or advice, and then they try and put it right afterwards.
Since I posted this message though, I've moved on from watching the CGI, to watching the original TV show "From the begining", I've watched season 3 so far, and finally, Listening to the video audio books, from be begining.
The video is basically the still pictures from the book as the audio plays, but I've been watching the archive of NewController01, who narated most of them himself originally, before "Restoring" Willie Rushton recorcings, most of these originals were actually on Vinyl Record. But yes, It's amazing the differences, and even the charactors they didn't use. Abandoning book engines like Donald and Douglas in favor of engines like Emilly, just because she's female, to try and change the mainline engines from being male only.
One of the most interesting points about the books is that during the first book, there's at least half a dozon engines in the main shed, Edward, Henry, Gordon, 2 blue engines with 5 digit numbers on their cab, and "The first red engine", and a bit later in the book one known as "The second red engine", who apparantly was originally supposed to be James... before James was painted red. Second book introduced James as a New engine who lives in a shed on the other end of the mainline, who's depicted black.
Also, Books 1 through 4 do not depict any engine with a number on their tender, the only one with their number is Thomas, and books 2 through 4 Henry is blue! Book 5 though seems to Magically depict Henry as Green again, and have their numbers painted on, which is briefly mentioned that Henry and Gordon have a new coat of paint, and Henry chose green, the numbers arn't mentioned. It also seems to change the idea that the mainline has at least a dozon engines, and starts along the path that the only engines on the line are the 5 that have been named so far, Thomas to James, and then the stable of engines is slowly introduced one by one (or occasionally 2 at a time, like Twins), as the only engines on the railway.

Sadly I'm not too familiar with the "Railway Series" as it's referred to. Where as the "TV" series is self explanatory. I think the TV series elected to feature a smaller roster of locos because it is aimed toward children and it could have been an issue of 'too many characters', so it's my belief that the TV series picked out the more focal characters to showcase in the series.
I do watch the older series on YT on occasion for nostalgia. My favorites are seasons 1 through 4, though here in the states they were narrated by George Carlin. But the series seems to hold together will up until about season 8. After that you can see the gradual shift to mindless childrens' entertainment. And you're absolutely right, it is the same exactly story told over and over again, but in a different way.
One advantage the CGI series has over the Classic one is it is easier to create new characters... And with that said why not introduce ones from the Railway Series? Such as the mountain climbing engines of the Culdee Fell Railway? They recently brought in the Arlesdale miniature railway, which was from the Railway Series. But it would be nice to see the franchise return to its routes.
And with all that said I still favor the Classic TV series as the CGI one has completely lost the charm the Classic one had. The CGI one, by comparison (and in my own personal opinion) is completely outlandish. ^^'
Not to mention how many 4 track main lines and BRANCHES can one Island have!!?! O_o

They did, though I'm not sure in which season (somewhere between 4 and 8) where it was really getting out of hand. Even so, I still enjoy the classic TV series, my favorite season being Series 4. As that introduced the narrow gauge engines. XD
Interesting to know that in the Railway series all the narrow gauge engines of the Skarloey Railway all had the same paint scheme. Whereas in the TV series all the NG engines had their own individual colors. Even though the different colors for each engine deviates from the series I actually must admit I like the creative liberty the show made. It made it much easier to identify each character, not to mention it seemed to make them more individual and unique. My personal opinion though. ^^'

I've never really watched beyond season 2 before, narated by Ringo Starr. I've just started watching season 4, after finishing the Rev W Audry books (Still need to watch the Christopher audry books), I think the first thing I noticed about season 4 is that the first narrow gauge engine introduced is Duke... but he was the last one introduced in the books.
They're made by a company in the UK called "Romford Models LTD". These were found on Ebay, though there aren't many to be found there. In either case you'll have to ship them in from the UK. So I would recommend ordering several of the couplings to make the purchase worth the shipping cost.
The couplings come with scale hooks also, which I have yet to install on the models. I just put on the links for show and to get an idea of what they look like. They are made in brass so they will either have to be painted or blackened somehow. That's something I'm still debating on how to do it.

There are several chemical solutions for blackening metals. However some actually "age" some metals rather than blacken it, so you have to be careful with what you use. Painting is an option, but it will either wear or rub off with use. Especially on something with a smooth surface. The paint needs something to 'bite' onto to make it adhere properly. This is why I try to clean all my parts to make sure they're free of any oils or residues that can affect the paint as it's applied. And with such small parts in could be a bit tricky to paint them. That's why I'm leaning towards blackening them somehow.
