Driven from her once-pleasant village, a young sagha slithered from tree to tree as fast as she could, trying to flee from her pursuers. She didn't want to. She wanted stay at the place she once called home. But with their teeth bared and weapons raised, she had no choice but to run for her life in the dense jungle.
Before this happened, life was good for Laksha. She had a mother who cared for her, friends to play with outside of school, and neighbours who enjoyed her company. Their village didn't have much in the ways of modern comforts the larger cities in New Hidea had, but they made due. When Laksha was old enough, her mother invited her to help her out in the garden and taught her about the many vegetables they grew. Laksha wanted to pay attention, but found herself busy marveling the shape of all the different plants and the bugs that weren't supposed to be crawling on some of them. She just enjoyed spending time with her mother doing something different, being shown something new.
As Laksha grew up, so did the small pair of horns that rested just above her eyes. She noticed that none of her friends had them, and asked her mother about this, noting that she seemed to lack them as well. Her mother told her that there was nothing odd about this, and it was just something that made her unique, just like how everyone is special in their own way. After hearing this, Laksha stopped worrying about her horns.
A few days later, a large armoured van drove into the village square, with a large 'V' on its sides. Vybrylon troopers equipped in protective armour and headgear announced on speakers that they were searching for an escaped test subject. A genetically-modified, horned viper sagha whose venom had very dangerous properties. The only person in the entire village who was a horned viper was Laksha.
No one in the village believed this at first. How could this small normal girl be a genetic experiment, especially since she was born in that village and has lived their all her life? Behind the troopers' backs, villagers came to Laksha's mother about this, who denied all accusations of her daughter being this escaped test subject. But it wasn't long before the troopers knew the villagers were hiding something from them. Trying to bribe them to hand the girl over, Vybrylon offered to completely fix up and modernize the village, complete with plumbing. But the villagers refused to surrender Laksha.
The next day, the troopers stormed Laksha's house.
Her mom barged into her room, grabbed her and pushed her through the window, screaming for her to run. Laksha did what she was told. She slithered through the garden, past the garden shed, and into the thick of the surrounding jungle. As she made her way through it, rubber bullets pelted the trees and bush around her, as the troopers caught up to her. She slithered as fast as she could, diving from one tree to the other, under bush, past vines and low branches, never looking back.
After what felt like hours of slithering through the jungle, Laksha stopped. She just stopped. She looked around to see where she was. She was far from home, her mother, her friends, everything she had ever known in her young life. Even the sounds of rubber bullets and pursuing troopers was gone. It was just her, all alone in the jungle.
Sketched her out a while ago, with the intention of creating a story about her. Weeks later, here she is, the story started. ^^
I have a tendency to leave any indication of scales out of the picture when I do reptiles, often forgetting about that. So this time I used a decorative pattern in Clip Studio and just applied something simple that resembled scales, then turned the opacity REALLY low. Redid the trees once, and I'm quite glad I did, as they looked clunky before. Still not the best thing in the world, but they're all right.
