When was the last time she cried?
Not a long time ago, but probably more than two months. Now the tears were once again streaming down her cheeks out of her emerald eyes. The light of the blood-red Lunitari and of the argenteous Solinari poured into the stable, covering everything with their faint glow through the iron bars of the window. She lay down on a patch of hay, her right hand going to grab her cover and bringing it over her equine body, the hooves gently planting themselves between the soft, yellow straw.
Why me, she thought, why did it have to happen to me? For the first time I thought I had found a party I would have enjoyed traveling with, but now... the mage is a necromancer and the kender is gone.
"Gone", that word echoed through her head, running up and down her whole being, a sense of fear pervading her. Where did he go? He disappeared the same moment that human girl appeared in front of all of them in that beam of blue light. A spell gone wrong? She wasn't sure, but now the thought that maybe she was responsible of his spiriting away crept over her mind, installing into her sureness the morbid cancer of doubt. She grabbed her necklace, oh, please, Astarin, may he be safe and sound, wherever he may be, she remorsefully prayed.
It wasn't really for the kender himself that she was praying, no, she knew it very well. She was praying for herself. She desperately needed someone, now that she had nobody to turn on for moral support. She opened her mouth, wanting to scream out, frustrated, but no sound escaped her parted lips. She was well aware of the presence of Kon es Kaz and Vorador in the next alcove and didn't want to wake them. She also remembered the other human mage, Aliranne, the reason of the missing kender.
Ruru Rovospino, Ruru, Ruru, Rovospino, Ruru Rovospino.. She wanted to yell out that name, screaming it so loudly as to wake the whole stable, the whole city, the whole world. Then, suddenly, she realized that it wasn't the kender's name that was coming to her lips.
It was Narchsissus.
As the teardrops kept rushing down her visage, she crept over her belongings, taking out of one of her four backpacks a worn out letter. Her eyes scanned the writings with her calligraphy, lingering over the words that were blurred due to the old tears that had stained the paper a long time ago. When am I going to send this letter? When am I going to stop living with regret?
She didn't have the answers to her questions, but she hoped that sleep could be of help as she dropped her head on the hay silently, her back arching slightly at every spasm or sob, the letter between her hands gathered over her necklace as if in prayer.
In the still air of the night, Lunitari and Solinari, and maybe even Nuitari, hidden from most's sight, kept guard of the centaur's restless sleep, shimmering in the stars-dotted sky.
