One year after the fall of the Talwyn nation, a resistance has arisen. The Ashurian government has taken to arresting those that use their abilities and sending them away. Caught in their net is young Topaz Everett, as her companions and guardians attempt to rescue her.

I agree, I love how this looks.
Originally this was going to be the start of the story, but as I worked on it I thought that if it was going to be a strict novel series as originally planned, I needed to fill in some important backstory. Initially 8 pages, the last day of the war was shown to both introduce Lauren and Chris, and show how we got to now. I find a good tool for keeping my plots tight is think about what you have, and then from there decide the absolute must show moments.
Haha. I have to thank/blame Fae for that. ;) I usually let her have free reign with background characters.
