And then she just heals my Pokemon for free, so its like nothing ever happened. For real. Because she's only upset because the fight didn't last longer. Its not possible for the fight to last longer. That was literally a Curb Stomping. You could barely damage me and I was WRECKING YOUR SHIT. That battle was a farce! A shitty built in tutorial fight that you can't lose. It is fucking INSULTING.
First two times ever playing Pokemon... GARY KICKED MY ASS.
AND I WAS FINE WITH THAT!
It gave me a Challenger I could look forward to fighting again and getting payback for last time! Then later down the road, when I play from the start again, I've learned... I use the Potion... I win! It was a motivating and learning experience. THAT is what the early game Rival Fight is supposed to be. This bitch ain't even my real Rival!! They just tossed her at me for a free win and a level up! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!?

Part of trying new things is taking a new perspective. Well, that and it's kind of hard to avoid that your character is the one who gets all the major storyline upgrades first (mega forms, etc.) and so just having them appear with the rival at the same time would screw with the main story progression pretty badly.
