writing challenge day 5 "through the eyes of a doll"
a while back, i set myself up on a writing challenge. go a month, writing a new story every day, (500 words on days i worked, 1000 words son days i was off) with a theme given to me by my friend
GothicVixen-Autumn during this time, i banned myself from any videogames and computer, limiting myself to books and skype mobile to chat with friends on occasion.
although i failed the challenge, i decided to upload my work here now. Some of them are good, some of them are.. not good. some of them are finished, some are works in progress. comes with the territory i suppose. as always, constructive criticism is always welcome <3
As i laid immobile in our walled prison, I realized I could not remember the last time i had seen light, i had nearly forgotten what it was, until i felt my whole world shake beneath, above, and all around me. Me and everyone else tumbles to and fro like little toys, until we landed with a little thud and a clack; every one us bouncing slightly. We had barely enough time to gather our bearings until the sky above us ripped open; darkness gave way to bright light, and i could finally see once more. I saw myself, my allies, and, The hand. The powerful master that controlled our lives. The Emperor's hand.
One by one, the emperor's hand pulled us out of our cold cardboard tomb. Our commander, the chaplain, our dreadnoughts, i watched, wondering what the master hand needed of us this day. Until he grabbed me. Firmly gripping my frame between his fingers, until he set me down on a massive battlefield. I beheld the foot of a fallen titan! Its sheer mass astounded me. I was the emperors finest, but i felt as a mere guardsman next to it.
In my shock of the mighty machine, i failed to notice why we were truly here; until the emperor's hand moved me once more. From the ariel view i saw them approaching. A Tau cadre. Foul xenos seeking to capture our titan!
By the light of the emperor; i would die before i allowed their filthy hands to desecrate such a machine!
Patiently, i waited, patiently, i kept my bolter at ready. Watching the emperor's hand move me and my battle brothers. One by one we approached. But, then i saw something else. Something that shot fear into the heart of even me! A mighty adeptas astartus! Another hand! This one was not the emperors hand however, different. Longer, more defined. It shook me, as i watched it advance the Cadre towards us.
Even with another hand to guide them, the emperor was on our side; i knew this as fact, every time the emperor's hand inched me closer to the aliens.
The flames of ferocity burned away my fear, fueling my thirst for war. Even as i came over the hill, that was the titan's fallen gun. Once there, I witnessed the vile hand roll a numbered rock across the field. Had i stopped to watch it, my battle would have ended there. Pulses of plasma shot past me in violent salvos, squad members beside me fell to the dirt, holes burned through their power armor, but none of them struck true against me.
I advanced my march, under the grip of the emperors hand. After he set me down, another numbered rock careened past me. This one thrown by my own master. With glee i poured a hail of bolter shells into the mass of Tau, bolt after bolt struck true. Red mists poured from Fire warriors, as they fell to the ground.
Wave after wave continued. Moving closer, letting the numbered rock guide our shots, like the emperor's tarot. Repeat. Each time either rock thudded to the ground, a certain fear shot though me. Unsure who and what would shoot under its orders.
But as our advance got close, the tau halted their forward march. "We were winning!" I cheered to myself.
Out Assault marines lept from behind the wall of tactical marines. Predator and dreadnaught advanced under the aliens show of weakness. The emperor's blessing truly was on our side this day.
The rev of chainswords and the hum of power blades tore through fire warrior after fire warrior. Lascannon bolts and demolisher shells blew through the armor of Tau devilfish and hammerhead machines as if they were paper. Each tank crashing to the ground as it turned to a fiery mess of metal.
I could swear i heard emperor's hand laugh, as the Tau's stand still turned to a full retreat. Their plasma bolts held no power over our bolts. Puny combat knives being ripped asunder by chainswords; but the aliens continued to fight in vein. I would have been proud of their courage under worsening odds; were they not foul scum to be purged. They continued to blast bolts of plasma into our line until our forces pushed them to the wall. A sense of pride ran through me, as i saw the etherial held down at the end of a power sword.
Even though it was not i to draw the final blow; seeing the vile hand defeatedly pull the etherial into a box, similar to what we came from, brought glory to my entire chapter.
With every alien slaughtered, the emperor's hand placed us back into our box. But on this day, pride flowed through every one of us. He even left the ceiling open. Letting his light shine upon us, as reward for our victory.

this was really cute, i like the idea that they are idle but yet still think and still feel alive in the action as apposed to the usual kind of resentment other living toy stories tell o; I think it actually may need a bit more description tho, maybe like where this is taking place and stuff
