In the US, it's typically a cable thing that you pull with an actuator at the end, that are strung along all the windows. I would feel bad for pulling it more than once x3 if it was a button, then maybe. Also I tend to stand at the front of the bus so I can get off quicker, so the driver would definitely say something!
That button does bing on the busses in Boston, bearing in mind the burden on the bus driver and I've run out of alliteration. Basically if you press it and he didn't need to stop, you will get a bunch of dirty looks. Only single-decker busses in the northeast on this side of the pond so they can make eye contact with you.
