I've always loved the design history of playing cards and suits and stuff. I wanted to try to stay faithful to important modern concepts (one-eyed royals, flipped face cards, suicide king), but also throw some nods to historical / alternative stuff, too, hence the swords/coins/staves/cups. I'm also gonna do the tarot elemental assocations for each suit in the pip designs, if I can find something simple/convincing.

Finished versions of these might look pretty cool in Microsoft Solitaire Collection...
