I drew this when I felt very disillusioned by the whole furry scene.
Maybe you noticed, maybe you haven't, that something is definitely going on and changing within the furry fandom. It's been like this the last year or two. A bit of that was put into this too.
I always viewed furry as perhaps a new phase in human evolution, or return to some form of the old ways. Then it became a bunch of people who spend all their time looking at animal people engaged in homoerotic acts, and crying "Fursecution" for almost anything.
What I kind of suggest in this thing is that maybe furry could be something more than what it is. "Shaman or Subculture" it says in the pic. I used to think the whole thing was about having a spiritual connection with animals, and it still is, only there is a great deal more internet drama than there should be for something so simple.
Then I got over myself, got back into enjoying almost all things furry (almost) and all that.
This is the first drawing an an unfinished series of five.

touchmybadger You have obviously out a great lot of thought into this. Yes it is awsome. But noticing the lots of religious symbols there. could furry possibly be just a subculture? When people are getting uppity about religion. Surely there are furry's in every religion. And in some furry for different reasons! This really made me think. Thank you extrememly much for that. o.o <3 Fav'd btw.

I'm still not sure what exactly furry is, but what I'm liking to think of it as a part of the re-emergence of old shamanic ways in the west. As to the religious angle, I think that the largest common denomonator among furries is that spiritual connection most of us feel towards animals. Now, spirituality and religion are not the same thing, though they do coincide a lot. We don't need religion to feel spiritual (though it does help a lot of people), and furry is a decent example of this. We have people from many religions sharing that one deep connection, which seems to have trancended almost all barriers that civilization has constructed, things like race, country, and religion.
This is just one of my views, and it's changed a bit since I drew this a year ago. Thanks for the comment and the fav, btw. It makes me happy!

I have been a furry my entire life, but didn't know what it was called until I found it online as a teenager. I had a fursona before I knew furry existed as a subculture. I've always felt connected to various animals, cats in particular, and the Woods. When I got into the furry subculture, I thought there would be much more about the serious, intellectual, or spiritual side of things, than what I've found. Spiritual includes erotic, but I'm not finding enough that is thoughtful-erotic as opposed to pin-up style or generic furry sex. There are furry folks that appreciate this, they are just rarer than I thought. I basically thought this would be a more shamanistic culture, as well.
Seriously, its the same way with me. I had the "Triad" fursona before I found the fandom, and when I did, I had may of the same thoughts. Now, twelve years later, I am constantly reminded that most people view it as either a fetish or an excuse to play dress up (not bad things per se, but far more shallower than I was expecting). I don't really blame it on the fandom or anyone in particular, its more of the detritus of our shallow consumerist/ego-driven culture that has filtered it's way into our family of freaks, heh heh. I started noticing it a lot over the last couple of years with the scenekid/latter-day raver influx, which has turned furry into a scene that is pretty much just a huge popularity contest for people who didn't get that shit out of their system in high school.
Fortunately, there are those out there who find deeper meanings in furry, and I am, as always, grateful that they exist. Furry is ripe for culture-jamming, which is what I try to do with my art. That's one of the reasons I'm doing my cop comic, I'm trying to seep in some social commentary into this fandom, wrapped in porn, since it's doubtful too many people aside from the people that know me, would pay any attention to it. That, and I like porn, ha ha!. :D
