Please pardon the lack of genuinely creative posts. I also offer apologies to anyone who may feel I've been neglectful towards them. I've just been working really hard to find my "Happy Place" as of late.
It's amazing all the thoughts that go through your mind when your coming down from a whole lot of stress while preparing for a very high risk surgery that is very soon to come. I feel relaxed no longer having that stress hanging over me. Heck, I didn't know how truly worked-up I was due to said stress until after I finally got to let it go after bracing against it for so long. It's weird to think the high probability of going completely blind is less nerve-racking than what has come and now is gone.
Although Rainfeather only graces the cover of this book, I do feel it is a great picture of her. She's my pony through-and-through. Her pose reminds me so much of how our son looked at me each-and-every morning as a baby. So eager, so happy, so ready to enjoy the day. I like visualizing Yosh like this, too. Such things help me relax and lull into what I'm hopeful will soon be sweet dreams.

I don't know too much myself beyond what I pick up here-and-there. I also recall it being the first thing I was obsessed with, which I can remember, when I was a kid.
I don't remember why my parents rented it, but we rented the G1 Premiere Episode on VHS. I remember throwing a massive tantrum when they had to take it back. I got it for my 5th birthday. :)
It, to me, shows how I started with Pony and was meant to come back to it with Friendship is Magic.

It's what I thought when I just so happened to come across this. I even found a Tumblr that showed the whole book. Rainfeather is only on the front cover, but the illustration here is most delightful. She even has a duck toy by her crib. :)
I aspire to write works that make people happy. This is a simple book, but the imagery here, coupled with the title, definitely set the mood perfectly. :)

Hey, Stoneth! So glad to hear from you. *Huggles*
I think Firefly was in the G1 Series Opener, right? In any case, I'll have to look her up to see the comparison.
G1 had LOTS of Ponies. So ones of similar color patterns would make sense. It's something I'm surprised Hasbro hasn't taken advantage of with G4. The more ponies the more they can sell. Oh, well. :)

You don't need to tell me about the number of G1 ponies. The sheer amount of them is incredible and it was how I got into MLP in the first place. And yet only a mere fraction of the dolls from G1 made it into My Little Pony 'n Friends (kind of like what happened with Transformers). And strangely enough the toys based around My Little Pony Tales only came out in Europe. Go figure.
It wasn't until G3 that Hasbro started to get into the concept of a core group of ponies to aggressively market, namely: Pinkie Pie, Cheerilee, Rainbow Dash, Toola-Roola, Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle and Starsong. Of course even there they had a bunch of extra ponies for the sake of selling other color ponies. Although Princess Rarity might be an exception.
And despite it all, the only G1 pony that Hasbro maintained the rights to was Applejack. Which is fine because she was always one of my favorites.

I am surprised how Applejack has been the one constant between all four generations of Pony. She even appeared in the very first episode of G1 and is in G4. So Applejack could technically be considered the proverbial "Alpha and Omega" of My Little Pony.
It makes me so sad when people put down G3 and G3.5. They are both, in my opinion, steps in a ladder that got us to "Friendship is Magic". I also am very fond of G3's "Star Catcher", "Sky Wishes", and "Minty". They had fun elements that were pretty much exclusive to G3. The "Scootaloo" and "Sweetie Belle" of G3 were also fun as they had unique talents. I do believe Sweetie Belle was a great baker. The "Twinkle Wish Adventure" was also a nice G3.5 movie.
I wish I could see better as they do sell G1 Ponies at BronyCon. The toys were very clever with all the fun features they had. The vendor explained them to me. All of which did not involve the use of batteries! Can you believe it? A toy that is fun without electronics? Nowadays everything that moves, glows, etc. seems to require a battery.
I at least have an original Baby Rainfeather. Though, I know she is at the end of G1. I'd certainly not mind an actual G1 1984 / 1986 Pony. :)

Well Applejack and Spike. Hasbro let ponies like Lickity Split, Bow Tie and Surprise fall by the wayside, but Applejack and Spike they kept. Back in G1, Spike's debut was as the pet of Scorpan, on of the original antagonists (along with Tirek) which technically means Spike was a bad guy at first. But after the resolution he became more of a pet of the ponies as a whole and the sole recurring male character (other than Danny and the occasional pony big brother). Back in G1 Spike was still a baby dragon and acted like a child (kind of similar to how he is now). They brought him back in G3 for a few specials but they made him more of a flamboyant foil instead.
Now even though Spike's origin as Scorpan's pet doesn't apply in G4, he is mentioned and Tirek was made into one of the villains of G4 which made me very happy.
So yeah. Spike and Applejack are G4's best ties to the original generation. Well ... technically Tirek too.

Does Twilight count? I know the pilot episode, "Escape from Midnight Castle", had Twilight and she was a Unicorn. I think i also read somewhere that Lauren Faust was going to name Ms. Sparkle just Twilight if it wasn't for how the book series by the same name about the shiny vampires didn't exist. Since the book series, Twilight, was still quite strong when Friendship is Magic came out, she added "Sparkle" to make sure there was a noticeable distinction.
I also could give you the biggest of big hugs right now! *Big Quacky Huggles* I've been trying to come up with a key point for another Spike and Twilight "Mother and Son" story. Scorpan opens the last door I needed to make the idea I wanted to do work. Thank you!

All of the Mane Six ponies have G1 counterparts except Applejack who IS a G1 pony. Rainbow Dash = Firefly, Pinkie Pie = Surprise, Fluttershy = Posey, Rarity = Sparkler, and Twilight Sparkle = Twilight. Despite both Twilight Sparkle and G1 Twilight being both unicorns, there are notable differences in their colors as Twilight is pink with a white mane while TS is purple with a dark purple mane. G1 Twilight's color scheme was however used as a basic for the design of Twilight Sparkle's mother in FiM.
Also happy to have been of help. Just for that, you get a hug.

Ooh! I had no idea that all the G4 Ponies were based off of G1 Ponies. That's rather awesome. I love learning how current work is truly based off of earlier work. It shows more of an "Evolution" instead of just a reboot.
You also reminded me how I need to look up the names of Twilight Sparkle's parents so I can properly do the story I want to do. I need them as a part of what, in high likelihood, will be the final segment of the "Maternal Bonds of Eternal Friendship" series I started.
You've been a super-duper help in getting my creativity sparked for finishing this last tale. I was truly having some intense writer's block, but you've aided in tearing that wall down with wrecking ball power! *Huggles* Thanks so much!
Are there any G1 Ponies you are particularly fond of? Perhaps some G2, or G3? I sadly know so little of G2, but G1 is fun and I like learning more of how I started with Pony and got back into it so I could do Coping with Limitations Through Pony. Astounding how the Brony community has empowered so many to be able to do things they may otherwise have not been able to do.
My wife has wanted me to speak up on behalf of those with special needs for a long time. I never thought I'd be any good at it nor have a platform where anyone would care to listen. Pony has given me both. I'm so glad to be helping. :)
