This is a spartan helmet I built in my foster dad's workshop, partly designed after the helmet from the movie "300" and partly designed by my own research in ancient Greek armor.
The story behind how this helmet came into creation is quite funny actually. at least I think so :P
So there i was, 2 days before my 11 page research paper for my western civilization class was due. However, being the typical procrastinating college student, I let the due date sneak up on me. I was worried about what i would do to get it done. Surely I would be up for the nest 48 hours doing research and writing.
Just then I got a brilliant idea. I remember my professor saying something to the accord of "if you don't want to write an 11 page research paper you can do something creative like interpretive dance from the ancient times, or perhaps play a song on an instrument."
Lets face it, there was no way I was going to learn some interpretive dance or how to play an instrument, so I figured I would use my amazing artistic ability to make something from the time period. :P
So with all of my cunning I convinced my foster dad to let me use his workshop for his business "Funtraptions" to make this helmet. It took all of 2 days, 100 dollars, and an overnight delivery of some metal. I drew out a template, used a bunch of tools to craft the steel, and save for a few spots of wielding, I had completed this helmet.
Best part is when I came in the next day, I wasn't sure what to expect, so taking a deep breath I walked into my class and my professor stopped reading the attendance off as he stared in amazement.
Needless to say i did a short presentation and got an A++ in place of an 11 page research paper. ;P
EDIT: I also have other pictures of the finished helmet, and a bunch of myself working on it.
