Another piece completed off the new queue! Despite having watched both movies, I've never actually gotten to draw a night fury before! They have such bizarre/interesting/adorable faces, and of course, 
Zenkhai's dude is no exception. I'm pretty proud of how much legwork I got down given the time constraints!

Ah, thank you! The scales are actually kind of a composite technique! From what I remember though, the teeniest ones (the background noise bits that really just look like teeny beads everywhere) are from a texture in my Aaron Blaise elephant skin pack (it's surprisingly cheap and REALLY useful as a set of go-to non-furry textures for animal flesh), the 'bigger' ones were just chunky blobs painted freehand on their own layer with a bevel/emboss applied to knock in quick/cheap dimension, and then there was a hint of photomashing around the lips-- I think I snipped a few scales from the lower lip of a random iguana photo on Wikipedia for the area under the eyes/above the lips? Then it was just scribbling and painting on top of everything to make it blend/react to the light/etc.
