There were five experimental FOE prototypes who's artificial veins were overloaded with coagulant, their inner suit layers treated with highly styptic materials that activated once ruptured. Unfortunately (and as thought), initial tests proved them to be too prone to blood clots, though it was noted that the test wounds inflicted had a significantly less long-term effect than those done to normal units. Ordinarily FOEs are treated to feel no pain - a severed or mangled limb means little to them. This die-hard fanaticism was one of their most fearsome advantages, but also could be exploited by enemy forces for a "death of a thousand cuts," as the units expired due to excessive bleed-outs.
The five experimental FOEs were designed as a potential countermeasure and upgrade to how they ordinarily handled damage. Many were killed several times over during the testing due to its nature, but miraculously all were able to be returned to life. Further testing on the matter was not sanctioned, and the units were decommissioned and hauled off to less than glamorous rear-duty posts. Eventually, they were put to sleep and stored, with supplies running thin for more important units.
The transport crawlers never did reach their destination - an unpredicted firestorm raged while the convoy was en-route. It was never recovered, and officially reported that the transports were now locked in an immeasurably thick layer of ice, formed as the residual effects of the snap freeze after a firestorm.
Much time has passed since then, and not much thought or effort was put into recovery. Indeed it was a loss and given the proper respects, but it would have been impossible to find the convoy - much more costly to find than it was worth.
Surely the units wouldn't be operational after so much abuse and time, if someone were to happen upon them.

That's pretty metal.
Also they are suprisingly quiet and adept at being silent; there's no rumbling engine and the animal base they were derived from were quiet stalking pack hunters. Snow helps muffle movement, but they're absolutely loud when going full sprint or walking on harder surfaces.
