In honor of the twentieth anniversary of "ConFurence East" (the East Coast version of the classic West Coast 'furry convention') - held in Elizabeth, New Jersey during October, 1995 - I have another rare 'photo-op' I'd taken during the event. (And, once again, my apologies for not posting it on "Throwback Thursday", as I usually do.)
I did take a few snapshots of some of the incredible 'fursuits' worn at "CFE". This one, of 'Anubis' the Egyptian jackal god, caught my eye immediately... and not just because it was a well-made costume. Back in the late 1980s, my mother Sheila Martinez was working (at C.W. Post College in Long Island, New York) for famed Egyptologist Dr. Bob Brier (who, in turn, has appeared on numerous TV specials about ancient Egypt [e.g. the Pyramids, the Sphinx, King Tut, mummies, etc.] on PBS, the National Geographic Channel, etc.). Both Mom and Dr. Brier were amused by the photograph I'd taken of the fursuiter.
(BTW, you can see earlier "CFE" pix - of anthroartists like
MelWhite,
TerrieSmith, et al - a few pages into said 'Scraps' section, so that you can see who else I had encountered two decades ago.)

Great to see these "historical" fursuit photos! I remember some of those early cons when there were just a few fursuiters. It's incredible how fursuiting has grown since those days. Also an interesting post for me because I've just finished a new song with lyrics based on the Egyptian Pyramid Texts!
If you ever make a recording of this song, I'd like to acquire a copy of it - to pass along to Dr. Brier (who is still checking out all things Egyptian). If you can't provide me with a CD of said song, send me the lyrics (privately via E-mail) and I'll pass them along to him.
