My first characters
These are my first attempts at drawing something that wasn't copied from a picture. I am learning a TON by copying pictures. Not tracing... but mimicking every line, every curve, ever detail, shading and shadows, the how and why things look the way they do.
Okay, so the girl on top was supposed to be "Jen, the curious Naakaanee" who will appear in my illustrations.
I borrowed elements of her from pictures of wolves, eyes from bubblewolf and wyla. Snoots not totally right. I'd LOVE some help on the snout.
The bottom guy, or girl, was actually a wolf skull I drew. Then I looked at some canine musculature and anatomy pictures and *tried* to draw in his or her eyes, ears, nose, muzzle snoot and etcetera.
He or she looks surprised because they don't really have any eyelids. I tried putting some fur patterns down but it might be pointless for this study.
Also, I had to keep grabbing my dogs and poking about their heads, lifting lips, pulling on lips, seeing where everything was located. I was surprised to find that the upper lip actually covers the lower teeth.
When my dogs refused to come to me any more, I used the massive, gentle, compliant ranch dog as a test subject, poking and prying about until he laid his head down with a sigh.
Having fun trying to draw irises. Can't wait to begin an eye study.
And yes. I am taking this stuff seriously. I want to be an excellent artist.
