Answer the Call
A Pokémon Tale. Part 2
3 days after Nate caught Rex... midnight
"Alright Nate it’s time for you and Rex to get into bed." Lilly said to Nate as she stood in the door to his room; Nate was busy playing with his toys and with Rex.
Nate let out a disappointed sigh "Alright momma." he started picking his toys and Rex helped pick some up too.
"Good boy Rexxy!" Nate said reaching down and smooshing up Rex's face and muzzle. Rex growled playfully, Rex was close to the same size as Nate when he stood on his back legs and was a fairly normal looking poochyena; just a few patches of fur were missing from the Beedrill attack. Under his left eye he had a patch of white fur about the size of a soda bottle cap, it wasn't perfectly round and it looked like the heel part of a paw print. Nate had got another bandana the same as his for Rex; it was fastened around his neck.
Rex let out a long loud yawn which sounded like a high pitched soft howl. Nate giggled "Who’s my cute poochy, huh boy; who is it?" Nate said, his hands still on Rex's muzzle as he let out a loud yawn of his own.
"Guess it’s bed time huh boy?" Nate said, letting go of Rex and walking towards the bed. Rex followed behind yawning again; Nate was already in his snoralax pj's as he jumped up into his bed and covered up. Rex jump up with him once Nate got settled, going around to the side against the wall; resting his paws on Nate’s chest and laying partly on and partly off of Nate with his head resting on his paws.
"Good night boys, sweet dreams." Lilly said as she turned off the light and shut Nate’s door, a small slugma night light glowed in the corner of Nate’s Room.
Nate sat there and stared out the window as he stroked Rex’s soft fur. The night was full of stars that brightened the night sky, it was beautiful. Nate turned his attention to Rex who was sleeping soundly and slightly snoring, his hand continuing to stroke his head.
"Boy, you really were tired huh boy?" Nate said quietly. "I can't wait until were both better and we can start doing some training, Maybe I can even help Dad at the gym, or maybe even become a Gym leader sometime, just like Dad." Nate slowly started to close his eyes…
"Garde....voir Gar....devoir...." Nate’s eyes opened up widely as he looked around his room.
"Hello is someone there?" Nate looked around the room, Rex was still out, his snoring slightly louder than before. "Gardevoir.... I have heard that before...aahheggaa!" Nate’s head started to burn. "That’s what it was like when me and Rex were being attacked by that Beedrill... I remember... aaeegghaa it burns...just like before."
Nate started writhing to the pain in his head as he squirming around. Rex woke up and was looking at Nate very confused and seeing that he was in pain he got up and stood over Nate whimpering loudly and licking against Nate’s forehead. Nate was breathing heavily and then just like that stopped moving and squirming and was out like a light; Rex laid down over him and continued to lick against Nate.
A few moments pasted by.
"Uughh oooooaa…" Nate slowly awoke, the room still being dark and Rex was over him and wagging his tail happily as Nate awoke.
"Oh thank goodness master is awake!" Rex started to lick against Nate’s face some more. "I was so worried!"
"Yes, yes Rex I’m awake." Nate hugged against Rex.
"Wait...... Rex? Did you just... talk?" Nate said looking at Rex wide eyed.
"Master can understand me?" Rex said with a slight tilt of his head.
"Woah... I can Rexxy...." Nate was completely dumb founded by this.
"This is so wonderful master, now that you can understand me too; this is amazing!" Rex was overjoyed.
"Yeah Rexxy... but my head hurts so much..." Nate said holding his head.
"It will for a while, young one." A soft ghostly like female voice was echoing through the room, both Rex and Nate heard it.
"Who’s there?" Nate demanded.
"Don't worry master, nothing is gonna hurt you again while I’m here!" Rex said, standing over Nate defensively. "Who’s there? Show yourself!" Rex demanded and growled at the room.
"It is unwise to growl at something far beyond your youth and comprehension." The ghostly voice was heard again.
"Rexxy calm down I know this voice... your Gardevoir aren’t you?" Nate asked calmly, Rex seeing that Nate was calm also calmed down but did not get off from Nate.
"Yes young human I am." The voice said softly. "Your head burns because of my gift I entrusted to you, you that of which is pure of heart and truly worthy of such a gift." Slowly a bright light formed in Nate’s room as ghostly figure of the Gardevoir hovered above Nate and Rex.
Nate gazed into her beauty and was in total awe. "Wow Gardevoir your beautiful!"
"Thank you child." Gardevior stated. “I’m giving you a gift that of which will take my life, but I’m much more use this way."
"Take your life?" Nate said puzzled. "I don't want to take your life Gardevior... that’s awful...”
Gardevior closed her eyes. "Oh child of such pure of heart, I know you wouldn't take it if I offered but I’m not offering, I’m giving you my gift... it’s for the best of our world, that and the Pokémon you humans care for... but not all humans care for Pokémon as you do child. There are those who want to use the Pokémon powers for evil... those who do not care if they harm Pokémon. I am currently prisoner... captive... forced to do things I do not wish... I have harmed many people... I do not wish to live a life of that. I have the powers to give my gift; in other words, I want to help these Pokémon... but the only way I can is to give my life and give my powers to a human pure of heart, a heart that shines as bright as the sun itself... and that child is you... please accept my gift... and save my Pokémon brethren. The people holding us captive are called the Nightmare Corp. and they are using us to send nightmares to people and Pokémon all over, making Pokémon more violent and quicker to anger and lash out at people. That Beedrill would have killed you if it was under the trance of Nightmare Corp. Most of my brethren have already fallen victims to this and are no longer my brethren or friends. Nightmare Corp. can control the Pokémon that they have tranced with their nightmares and make them do very evil things. It needs to be stopped before it becomes worse, it needs to be stopped before it happens. I wish to give my life that I may save many others... but without you none of this will happen. You must keep this to yourself, if Nightmare Crop was to find a human child that could talk with pokemon… you will know what to do in your future ...so I beg of you, child please accept my gift.”
Nate and Rex both sat there in silence after hearing such a horrible story of suffering, tears running from their eyes. "That’s awful...how could anyone do that to Pokémon..." Nate sniffled.
Rex lovingly licked at Nate’s cheeks "Don't cry Master." Rex said softly nuzzling up to Nate's face.
Nate pulled him close hugging around his neck tuff tightly, sobbing into Rex’s fur.
"I know this is hard to hear my child, but it’s needed, I speak for all the Pokémon... we need your help."
Nate sat back, holding Rex close, Rex pushing against Nate with his paws and forelegs wrapped around Nate.
"I’ll do it... I’ll take your gifts... and save those Pokémon..." Nate said still sobbing, tears still running down his cheek.
Gardevior gave a soft sigh "thank you my child, I thank you for all the Pokémon" Gardevior started to shine brightly as it hovered above Nate and Rex, soon Nate could hear a noise of a heart beating which was getting faster and faster as the bright white light that was glowing from Gardevior floated towards Nate. As it quickly zapped into his chest, Nate felt like he was hit hard; it was like getting punched in the chest. Nate sat there for a second and looked up at the Gardevoir which was slowly fading away, she looked very weak... and getting weaker.
"Th-thank... you... my child..." Her ghostly body lay still as it slowly faded from existence till she was gone.
Nate sniffled, still sad over everything that was going on; it was all happening so suddenly.
Rex was snuggled up against Nate "So master can still hear me?" Rex asked.
Nate just nodded.
"Maybe you will be able to talk to other Pokémons too master; it will help you to help them." Rex said yawning just after.
Nate again just nodded and yawned, laying back down and pulling Rex close to him. Nate slowly closed his eyes, Rex laid on top of Nate with his muzzle against Nate’s chin; both slowly starting falling into a deep sleep.
"Rexxy?" Nate said quietly.
"Yes master?"
"I love you Rexxy, don't ever leave me... promise?" Nate said with a soft sob.
"Of course master, I’ll stick to you like stink on a skuntank, master" Rex joked. They both gave a small chuckle, slowly the pair fell into a very deep sleep, Nate holding onto Rex tightly.
Early the next morning.
"Come on master get up get up getupgetupgetupGETUP!" Rex was jumping around on the bed. "Come on master get up, I wants to go outside and play!"
Nate just let out a small giggle as he uncovered himself, sat up, stretched, and yawned. "Ok, ok silly calm down before you...!"
Fwoomp! Rex hopping around too much accidentally jumped clean off the bed in his excitement.
Nate rushed over to the edge of the bed and looked down. "Rexxy are you alright?!"
Rex laid there slightly dazed "I’m ok Master... I couldn't stop in midair and went over the edge... a little" Rex said with a giggle.
Hopping up from the bed, Nate helped get Rex back to his paws "Come on you silly pup, lets go see if momma cooked breakfast!"
"Ooo FOOD!" Rex went darting past Nate and down the stairs, as Nate followed behind the fresh smell hit his nose... "Mmm smells like pancakes!"
"Well good morning Rex, were is Nate?" Nate heard his mom ask Rex.
"I’m coming momma, Rex just smelled the food and darted down here to see you." Nate giggled as he walked into the kitchen.
"Well isn't that nice of him." mom said. "Come Nate, I already got you a plate ready."
Nate went up to and sat down at the table; Pokémon shaped pancakes laid out before him "Mmmm looks yummy momma!" Nate start buttering his pancakes and preparing them to eat.
"And this is for you Rex." Mom put a small bowl on the floor that had little brown and white balls.
Rex sniffed at them and ate one, a few seconds after chewing Rex had his muzzle deep in the bowl of food, munching loudly.
Nate giggled and watched his poke' pal stuff his face as he started to do the same to his pancakes. Mom joined him at the table and Nate and Lilly talked about things that needed to be done around the house; Nate wanted to go help the miltanks again.
"Ok Nate, you can go feed the miltanks again, but I’m gonna be going to the store, you going to be ok here all on your own?" Lilly said to Nate as she got up from the table.
"Yeah momma I’ll be fine, I got Rexxy here with me and the unstoppable Ruby, isn't that right big brave Rex?" Nate said to Rex.
"Yes master, Rex is always by your side!" Said Rex, sitting up straight and puffing out his chest, in response.
"Like stink on a skuntank" Nate joked.
Lilly just looked at them with a grin on her face. "It’s so cute how you talk to that little poochyena and he responded with barks and growl, it’s almost like you two are talking to each other." Lily joked.
Nate just smiled and Rex chuckled.
After cleaning up the kitchen Nate, Lilly, and Rex went outside.
"Oh I almost forgot, Nate" Lilly was digging around her purse. "Oh here they are, there’s 3 poke balls, 2 potions and some moo-moo milk freshly made from Ruby herself."
Nate smiled widely, Ruby’s milk was the sweetest around, people from all over come to pay a high price for our milk; Nate loved Ruby’s milk.
"Thanks momma!" Nate said happily as she put the items in his little backpack.
Lilly bent over and kissed Nate on the head. "Love you sweetie, have a fun day, and you…" Lilly bent down and rubbed Rex on the head. "You take care of Nate now." She stood up and started walking to her little car. "Bye bye boys!" She hopped in her car started it and drove away, Nate watched her leave. Soon after the car was gone Nate and Rex walked to the barn.
"Hhhmmm I wonder how Ruby will react to me talking to her." Nate said out loud thoughtfully for Rex to hear.
"'I’m sure she will be delighted more so then I was master, from what you told me she is more your momma then your actual momma." Rex said pushing against the barn door with his head.
Nate walked into the barn, he could hear some of the other miltanks talking and some were snoring, but he wasn't interested in them, he went straight to the back to Ruby’s pin.
"Ruby are you awake you silly miltank?" Nate said opening the door to the pin.
"Oh the young master is here, I haven’t seen him since the day he came back from that center he went to." Nate heard Ruby say to herself.
Nate walked into the pen with Rex by his side.
"Ooo and how are you little poochy? Do you belong to the young master now?"
Rex stepped forward. "Yes he does miss Ruby; it’s nice to get to meet you."
Ruby looked over at Nate as he shut the door, getting up on her back legs "Is the young master better Rex?" Ruby asked Rex.
"Yes Ruby I’m much better." Nate said turning and walking towards her.
Ruby’s eyes went wide in confusion, Rex just snickered to himself.
"Young master, you can understand me?" Ruby asked blank faced.
Nate walked up and hugged against Ruby tightly "Yes, I can, isn't it wonderful?" Nate said smiling, Ruby hugged back against him. "I’ve always wanted to talk to you Ruby."
“but how? Asked Ruby as she hugged around him him very tightly and rubbed her moist nose into Nates face.
“I complicated Ruby I’ll explain as best I can.” Nate said.
Nate explained everything he could remember from last night bits and pieces were a bit hazy.
"EEEEEKKKEENSSSSSSSS"~
"What was that?" Rex asked looking around a little startled.
"Mmmmm I think it came from above us." Said Ruby looking up at the rafters of the barn.
"Ekkkeenss!" The noise came again.
"It sounds like a Pokémon, Ruby lift me up so I can see." Nate said to Ruby.
Ruby picked Nate up high on her head and stood up, Nate grabbed the board above them and easily climbed up.
"Master be careful…" Rex whimpered to Nate.
Nate stood up in the rafters and dusted himself off before he moved to the back where he saw some movement. Nate slowly walked forward, he could tell it was a Pokémon but not one he had seen before. As Nate got closer the unknown Pokémon it stopped moving, Nate could see two golden yellow eyes glaring at him, it then hissed loudly at Nate, making him jump a little. Nate could tell the Pokémon was scared and from want Nate could see the back side of the Pokémon; was stuck. The closer Nate got the more he could see.
"SSSSSSSSS, SSSTAY AWAY"! The snake hissed again, its tail rattling as well.
"Calm down, no one’s gonna hurt you." Nate said softly as he looked at were the Pokémon was stuck. The Pokémon had gotten stuck between two 2x4's supporting the barn rafters; one had gotten lose as it had slithered over.
Nate reached for the loose the 2x4 and BAM the Pokémon struck out with a bite just short of Nates reach, Nate pulled back and fell onto his backside.
"Aaahhhh ow ow that hurtsssss, SSSTAY AWAY!!" Nate herd the Pokémon say after it struck, pulling on where she was stuck.
"Hey would you relax, I’m trying to help you!" Nate replied.
The Pokémon was quite dumbstruck that a human understood him.
"Well mind your own buisssssnesssss human." the Pokemon replied with a hiss.
"Let me help you before you hurt yourself." Nate reached for the lose 2x4 again and moved it, the Pokémon sprang free and fell down to the barn floor below.
Both Ruby and Rex jumped back from the falling Pokémon.
"Ruby catch me!" Nate said from the rafters, Ruby laid down on her back just under where Nate was.
"Jump sweetie." Ruby patted her belly and udders.
Nate jumped and landed on Ruby, both of them giggling; Ruby lifted Nate up gave him a loving lick and sat him down. The Pokémon sat on the ground coiled up, staring at the group.
"That’s an ekans young master" Ruby said. "They are kinda on the angry side, but this one is very young and looks scared.
As ruby said the ekans hissed loudly at the group.
"I helped you, why are you so angry with us?" Nate said as the group stared down the ekans.
"Young master you’re going to have to battle the ekans, both you and Rex."
Nate looked at Rex who met his gaze "Come on master, we can take em!" Said Rex, Nate looked back at the ekans, he didn’t want to hurt the ekans anymore but to calm it down Nate knew what he had to do.

"And this is for you Rex." Mom put a small bowl on the floor that had little brown and white balls.
Rex sniffed at them and ate one, a few seconds after chewing Rex had his muzzle deep in the bowl of food, munching loudly.
Nate giggled and watched his poke' pal stuff his face as he started to do the same to his pancakes. Mom joined him at the table and Nate and Lilly talked about things that needed to be done around the house; Nate wanted to go help the miltanks again.
"Ok Nate, you can go feed the miltanks again, but I’m gonna be going to the store, you going to be ok here all on your own?" Lilly said to Nate as she got up from the table.
"Yeah momma I’ll be fine, I got Rexxy here with me and the unstoppable Ruby, isn't that right big brave Rex?" Nate said to Rex.
"Yes master, Rex is always by your side!" Said Rex, sitting up straight and puffing out his chest, in response.
"Like stink on a skuntank" Nate joked.
Lilly just looked at them with a grin on her face. "It’s so cute how you talk to that little poochyena and he responded with barks and growl, it’s almost like you two are talking to each other." Lily joked.
Nate just smiled and Rex chuckled.
After cleaning up the kitchen Nate, Lilly, and Rex went outside.
"Oh I almost forgot, Nate" Lilly was digging around her purse. "Oh here they are, there’s 3 poke balls, 2 potions and some moo-moo milk freshly made from Ruby herself."
Nate smiled widely, Ruby’s milk was the sweetest around, people from all over come to pay a high price for our milk; Nate loved Ruby’s milk.
"Thanks momma!" Nate said happily as she put the items in his little backpack.
Lilly bent over and kissed Nate on the head. "Love you sweetie, have a fun day, and you…" Lilly bent down and rubbed Rex on the head. "You take care of Nate now." She stood up and started walking to her little car. "Bye bye boys!" She hopped in her car started it and drove away, Nate watched her leave. Soon after the car was gone Nate and Rex walked to the barn.
"Hhhmmm I wonder how Ruby will react to me talking to her." Nate said out loud thoughtfully for Rex to hear.
"'I’m sure she will be delighted more so then I was master, from what you told me she is more your momma then your actual momma." Rex said pushing against the barn door with his head.
Nate walked into the barn, he could hear some of the other miltanks talking and some were snoring, but he wasn't interested in them, he went straight to the back to Ruby’s pin.
"Ruby are you awake you silly miltank?" Nate said opening the door to the pin.
"Oh the young master is here, I haven’t seen him since the day he came back from that center he went to." Nate heard Ruby say to herself.
Nate walked into the pen with Rex by his side.
"Ooo and how are you little poochy? Do you belong to the young master now?"
Rex stepped forward. "Yes he does miss Ruby; it’s nice to get to meet you."
Ruby looked over at Nate as he shut the door, getting up on her back legs "Is the young master better Rex?" Ruby asked Rex.
"Yes Ruby I’m much better." Nate said turning and walking towards her.
Ruby’s eyes went wide in confusion, Rex just snickered to himself.
"Young master, you can understand me?" Ruby asked blank faced.
Nate walked up and hugged against Ruby tightly "Yes, I can, isn't it wonderful?" Nate said smiling, Ruby hugged back against him. "I’ve always wanted to talk to you Ruby."
“but how? Asked Ruby as she hugged around him him very tightly and rubbed her moist nose into Nates face.
“I complicated Ruby I’ll explain as best I can.” Nate said.
Nate explained everything he could remember from last night bits and pieces were a bit hazy.
"EEEEEKKKEENSSSSSSSS"~
"What was that?" Rex asked looking around a little startled.
"Mmmmm I think it came from above us." Said Ruby looking up at the rafters of the barn.
"Ekkkeenss!" The noise came again.
"It sounds like a Pokémon, Ruby lift me up so I can see." Nate said to Ruby.
Ruby picked Nate up high on her head and stood up, Nate grabbed the board above them and easily climbed up.
"Master be careful…" Rex whimpered to Nate.
Nate stood up in the rafters and dusted himself off before he moved to the back where he saw some movement. Nate slowly walked forward, he could tell it was a Pokémon but not one he had seen before. As Nate got closer the unknown Pokémon it stopped moving, Nate could see two golden yellow eyes glaring at him, it then hissed loudly at Nate, making him jump a little. Nate could tell the Pokémon was scared and from want Nate could see the back side of the Pokémon; was stuck. The closer Nate got the more he could see.
"SSSSSSSSS, SSSTAY AWAY"! The snake hissed again, its tail rattling as well.
"Calm down, no one’s gonna hurt you." Nate said softly as he looked at were the Pokémon was stuck. The Pokémon had gotten stuck between two 2x4's supporting the barn rafters; one had gotten lose as it had slithered over.
Nate reached for the loose the 2x4 and BAM the Pokémon struck out with a bite just short of Nates reach, Nate pulled back and fell onto his backside.
"Aaahhhh ow ow that hurtsssss, SSSTAY AWAY!!" Nate herd the Pokémon say after it struck, pulling on where she was stuck.
"Hey would you relax, I’m trying to help you!" Nate replied.
The Pokémon was quite dumbstruck that a human understood him.
"Well mind your own buisssssnesssss human." the Pokemon replied with a hiss.
"Let me help you before you hurt yourself." Nate reached for the lose 2x4 again and moved it, the Pokémon sprang free and fell down to the barn floor below.
Both Ruby and Rex jumped back from the falling Pokémon.
"Ruby catch me!" Nate said from the rafters, Ruby laid down on her back just under where Nate was.
"Jump sweetie." Ruby patted her belly and udders.
Nate jumped and landed on Ruby, both of them giggling; Ruby lifted Nate up gave him a loving lick and sat him down. The Pokémon sat on the ground coiled up, staring at the group.
"That’s an ekans young master" Ruby said. "They are kinda on the angry side, but this one is very young and looks scared.
As ruby said the ekans hissed loudly at the group.
"I helped you, why are you so angry with us?" Nate said as the group stared down the ekans.
"Young master you’re going to have to battle the ekans, both you and Rex."
Nate looked at Rex who met his gaze "Come on master, we can take em!" Said Rex, Nate looked back at the ekans, he didn’t want to hurt the ekans anymore but to calm it down Nate knew what he had to do.
