The fox paused as he neared the treasure room. The temple had been rather easy to navigate, and now he could see the light at the end of the tunnel. That haunting, tempting golden light which reflected from the priceless treasure within. The fox smiled. With a few quick trips he would soon be rich beyond his wildest imagination. He never saw the shadow that followed him, watching his progress. The fox moved around the treasure room, his eyes wide. Pausing he focused on a ruby of giant proportions, mounted on a stone plinth. The fox reached out. The ruby would be the first of his fortune. Suddenly a knife flew through the air, slicing between the gap of his fingers, and sticking into the stone. The fox gasped and a cold voice spoke out.
"You have had your fun. But I draw the line at allowing you to take any of my treasure."
The fox turned spotting a woman standing behind him. She was a striking zebra tarantula, dressed in ornate, regal armour. She flicked her hand, and the knife returned to her as though drawn on an invisible thread. The woman stepped forward and the fox spoke.
"This is my treasure," he said. "I found it fair and square. You can't steal it from me."
The zebra tarantula's eyes narrowed angrily and she hissed.
"I am Maya, Queen of this temple, and guardian of the sacred treasure. You are the thief here."
Her hand slipped down near her side and she drew a second knife, holding them at the ready.
"You amused me enough when you arrived, to allow you this far. Just to see what you would do. But no more. Leave now and you will be unharmed. Resist..."
Maya spun her knives skillfully in her hands, the blades, one light and one dark, glinted sharply.
"And I shall show you no mercy."
The fox swallowed hard. He had not expected this when he entered the temple, and now he faced a very angry queen. This was not going to end well, he could see...
