Personality: Energetic, free-spirited, upbeat, friendly, thoughtful, caring, unusually intelligent
Backstory:
The high-spirited and jovial member of Tiffany's group of friends, Samantha is the kind of girl that loves to live life to the fullest, and, more importantly, with as much positivity possible. Surprising Tiffany and others, among other silly things, is one of her favourite things to do - the thrill of seeing them jump and chirp in shock, so as long as no harm is done, pleases her so much. Like most of her friends, she had been attending Tyndale Collegiate Institute ever since kindergarten, being a bouncy child back then, and a fun, social loving girl today. The only difference being that she has bird wings and legs now.
Similar to others who had been victimized via transformation in recent times, one of Samantha's dreams were invaded by Velirai, during one of her summers. As friendly and content the girl was, she knew very well that to be visited by Velirai was no laughing matter. If it wasn't for the fact that it was a dream, it would have been one of the few times in her life when she was genuinely scared, and not happy at all, deeply afraid of what the demonic centaur would do to her. While some of her victims ended up with fairly "safe" changes, she had heard horror stories of those Velirai decided to get creative with...
But when she woke up, Samantha found herself intact, all limbs and body parts accounted for. Except... her arms were covered in feathers, and her legs reshaped into those of a songbird's.
For the first while, she was understandably scared by what happened to her. She couldn't grab things with her wings, and she hadn't used her feet to do much, if anything besides walk. But much to the surprise of her friends, she eventually got used to her changes, especially once she started to perform tasks were her feet. Even her parents were more shocked by how quickly she adjusted to her new body, compared to when she was first changed. Unfortunately, her body wasn't quite fully designed for flight; aside from having wings, there were numerous other elements of her body that prevented her from being able to fly. In Samantha's eyes, that was the only cruel thing Velirai did to her.
Baffling her colleagues with her skill, surprising intelligence, and energetic friendliness, Samantha continues on through high school with aims to become a psychiatrist. She sticks by her friends as they too continue on, especially close when they are in need of comfort, or just for the fun of it.
Another character in my Short Story Project, alongside Tiffany Vanderfield, and many others I hope to illustrate. After Tiffany, she and two other girls and Tiffany's "boyfriend" were the first to have been very clearly defined during my revolutionizing brainstorming session. There was another friend a part of their friend circle, but not only could I never think of a good name for her, her character as a whole was up in the air. I have since figured out exactly what to do with her~
Feathers... I dislike them. I just can't ever get the hang of them. I'm not one for being super detailed, as I do like to have some level of simplification with my style - I just don't know how to achieve it. This looks all right, but... I'll just try something else or work at this to get something better in later pictures.
I returned back to using edge highlights again. Well, in greater quantity, that is. It too looks all right. But it's something else I need to play with more.
One of the favourite things about this character pertains to a discovery I made a while ago. While going through Dinoboy134's works [ http://dinoboy134.deviantart.com/ ], I stumbled upon a certain harpy character of his. Take a wild guess as to what her name was. Yep! Samantha! =D [ http://fav.me/d88nw37 ] I had a good long chuckle when I discovered her. In honor of such a fun coincidence, I decided to style my Samantha's shirt off of his Samantha's. And the shorts. And the blue feathers... XD Ah crap! Maybe TOO much homage!
Anyway, here's my fluttery, friendly harpy gal! ^^
