Yep. You can't get the whole thing or even a really great shot of it from the ground. It's too big for one thing. And the way the steam shifts around from the wind, it's difficult to get a really good shot of the blue center. So air shots are best.

Nice one. Yeah, the springs are hard to shoot. You need a panorama to do them justice.

Thank you! I have a panorama ability but the way the steam was coming off the spring I don't think it would have shown up well. I had to time my shots carefully to get the blue of the water at all. Also it's a different camera that takes the panoramas and I wasn't carrying it too.
I'm not sure where the Lamar Valley is. I don't see it on my proposed route for today. Tell me about it, won't you? I'm at Fishing Bridge and planning to go up by way of the Grand Canyon falls area and through to Mammoth Springs. That will probably take care of most of today. I still have all day tomorrow though. Hoping to take a bit of a day hike somewhere in here. Not a big one. Just something to get away from the crowds for a bit. I'll be leaving for Grand Teton sometime Wednesday.

We saw more wildlife in the valley than anywhere else. Nice quiet place to just sit and enjoy.

If you're going to the Tetons you can plan your route to go through the valley be pending on where you are starting from. Any of the park maps will show you the way.

I think I drove through it today on the way to Mammoth. didn't see any wildlife except Bison though. And Birds.
