First, I want to say that I'm very sorry this took so long. I maybe poured *at least* 200 hours into this in just the past 2 weeks alone.
But then that's because I had put it off for a while and needed to finish it badly. I started this on April 17...

This ship is also his, but the design of the ship was created by me. More on that in a bit.
Third, you can see the WIP collage of this image here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16316125/
When I decided to make a character and only 2 people came forward, I decided to make them both.
The first one, Jade, I wanted to attempt my first ever animation with. And I succeeded.
The second one, Cheery, was to be an image, but a bigger one including his ship. I succeeded, but am not too happy.
I wanted to have a few more things to this image. Smoke / steam, wind blowing, better glare effects, etc.
But the scene already kept giving me so much trouble. This is my biggest scene to date, and kept crashing because it had a lot of stuff.
The jacket robe thing was supposed to be blowing in the wind, but didn't. The simulation failed. I have an idea to fix it though.
There was also supposed to be steam venting from the back of the ship. Again, the simulation failed, and I didn't want to fake it.
I will try again sometime later and make an update to the image.
I am happy with the grass though. I would say that's probably what keeps crashing me, and indeed it's probably why the render took 7 hours and 15 minutes, but I was crashing even before Blender.
The image has changed a bit. The original vision for the image I had was to have Cheery standing in front of his ship.
The ship's door would be open, and there would be a laptop on a crate with long wires connecting to the ship.
Cheery would also have a wrench in one hand. It was to imply he was doing maintenance, but that didn't make sense.
So I decided to create a holographic tablet, which I call a holo-wand, and he performed remote maintenance.
I wanted to give him Mass Effect inspired casual clothing. I designed them myself. The shorts were to have a white camo pattern underlining, with a dark outside and the rest of it white.
I messed up on the UV mapping a bit, so the whole outside is white. I can redo it.
The long jacket was supposed to be a combination of casual jacket and a robe. It looks like leather I suppose, but is more like ...polyester?
The bottom half of the robe has mesh. Like a mesh shirt, but slightly bigger mesh.
I want to make this in real life, but it probably wouldn't be so good as a jacket because of the mesh.
Although originally it was supposed to be a thin transparent with mesh coverings.
The ship is my design. It's a combination of Cheery's original idea for a ship (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14010132/) and the remade version (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14432765/).
Although looking at the descriptions of them again, I may have gotten the wrong references...
I swear they said they were for Cheery at first!
I'm not too happy about the landing legs, but it needs to land somehow. It makes the ship look giant, but then it is partially a tiny house. The displacement effect came out too big as well.
I'll be making a separate render of the ship later, although I suppose I'll correct a few things.
There are a few other things I'm unhappy about. The hull of the ship. Aside from the overblown displacement, I didn't too much like the color.
And the rigging. Or rather the weight painting. Automatic weighting failed, so I had to do it all manually. If you look closely at the elbow, you can see it badly deformed.
This isn't my first time rigging, but this is one of my first time (times?) using HDRi, or high dynamic range imaging.
In this case, it's the environment map.
I really hope you all like it. I put a LOT of work into it, especially over the last 2 weeks. That's pretty much where all my time went.
I realize it's not... the best. I am still learning. But I'll be making a few corrections and uploading a better version later, maybe.
I do want to say, this is MY LAST IMAGE I'm making for a while. Last image for others I mean.
I've spent an ENORMOUS amount of time making stuff for others. Some of it was practice.
Much of it were requests and indie game work. I didn't ask for anything other maybe 5 minutes to hang out and some credit. I couldn't even get that...
Even though I do have one more thing to finish, and am again doing indie work, I want to finally get to my own stuff.
I've been putting it off for 11 YEARS now. 15 depending on how you count it.
