What can I say? I believe this is the only waterfall that drops onto a beach in California. You aren't allowed down to it for numerous reasons. One good one is the cliffs are very dangerous to try to climb and many rescues have been necessary before they made it illegal to even try. Another is they don't want this iconic beach messed up by idiots who love to litter, tag and generally ruin anyplace nice they can get to, as happens to so many of our beautiful places.

I saw some pools with waterfalls on rivers inland that looked similar but for the sand, but never got to any beaches like that. Of course I was 16 and with my parents most of the time. We did take a one day tour of a bunch of the islands by plane. Landed on a couple. Molokai for one. And they took us for a car tour through Kalaupapa, the leper colony. It was years before I understood why there were no people on the streets as we drove through. Who'd want a bunch of ignorant tourists staring at them because they had a terrible deforming disease. That was sick and I just didn't know it then.
I agree. I've taken so many pictures of this. here's another of my favorite ones that I took years ago. http://puppetdog.deviantart.com/art.....Falls-44201412
Not THERE there. But close enough to go there for a day trip if i want. It's actually 92 miles from my house to this waterfall. I prefer to go for several days as the close to 100 miles of Highway 1 between the city of Monterey and the town of Cambria is all considered part of Big Sur and is gorgeous! I like to roam back and forth out there, going to different places and beaches. There are also lots of wonderful trails back into the Santa Lucia mountains scattered all through that length and a few state parks. And it's basically a wilderness all the way too, even down to the ocean. There's only a few small towns and no cell phone reception or anything out there either. It's like going back 100 years for the most part.
Thank you. Here is another one of the falls that took from a totally different angle.
