Now those of you who loved The Dark Crystal know where they got the look for the Skeksi's heads and necks and crazy eyes. I think they look just a wee tad insane, personally. >:3

Thanks! I think they were hand raised and then released because they were so tame they let me walk right up to within 5 feet of them and never ruffled a feather. There were three and they all wore big numbers and radio senders strapped to a wing. All the condors have these I believe except for the few who have been hatched and raised wild. I think the bulk of the California Condors left were raised by humans and released. But they are making a comeback. That is the good news. In 2014 there were known to be approximately 435 alive free and in captivity. With about 237 free flying in California. The bulk of them either around Big Sur, Pinnacles National Park or the Sespe area of Los Padres national Forest. All of which sort of connect in a far flung way.
This is a crop from a picture with 5 of them in it. Just to show the heads close up. There were 6 in one spot total, but I couldn't get all of them in a good picture. They were possibly hand raised ones that had been set loose to help re-populate the California Condor species and were rather more tame than they should have been. They let me walk right up to within 5 feet of them without doing more than glancing at me. Here's another picture of a couple that I posted on my DA page that you might like. http://puppetdog.deviantart.com/art.....elry-544218998
My pleasure. The condors hang out in that general area a lot for some reason. I've seen gatherings of them there several times, though admittedly I have spent a lot of time driving up and down California's Highway 1 in the Big Sur area, where these pix were taken. I love that place!!
