So this is one of the places I'm working at over the summer, the Banff Park Museum. Built in 1903, two years before the valley got electricity, it is for me one of the coolest buildings in the rockies.
Aside from the design that was made to let light in naturally due to the whole lack of electricity thing, it's just neat to have an old wood building still kicking around. The craftsmanship on the inside is wonderfully detailed, and crazy to think about when you consider it's all handmade.
The museum is actually one of the oldest natural history museums in the west, and is a really interesting example of victorian-era displays of that nature. Lots of taxidermi'd animals and such :P

This is a beautiful building. It reminds me of fantasy images of hunting lodges and such, like you see in some games or read about in novels. I can only imagine how cool it must look to see all the design and detail within it. Overall, all these pictures you have been sharing here West are simply wonderful to see. Thank you for this and all the others as well.
Oh yeah, absolutely it does! One of the wings on the inside used to be the park superintendents office until they built a dedicated administration building in the 30s which gives it this unique sort of feeling. I'd love to show off the inside, but I don't think my camera can quite do the details justice. Though I really oughta take a few of some old backcountry warden cabins if I can ever get out to some, those are pretty interesting to see!
I'm glad both you and March have been enjoying these, it definitely motivates me to continue to share Banff with everyone here. :3
