Project Alf is a questionable movie to begin with, but what disappoints me the most isn't the absence of the Tanner family but that Alf doesn't even mention them. While behind-the-scenes problems might explain why the actors didn't want to reprise their roles, it doesn't explain how Alf got over his Earth family beyond all reference. In the ideal version of the film, the Tanners might still have been absent, but you could've expected to see a scene like this.
Cseed created this, so splendidly.
Readasaur drafted Alf's dialogue. He wrote it about six months ago and then surprised me today by having commissioned this for me.

As a big ALF fan, yeah, the ending of the series was a real let down. And the movie didn't really satisfy me that much, due to the absence of the Tanners and them being left out of the conversation except for the very beginning of the movie. And it was really sad to hear that the Alien Task Force put them in a witness protection program, and twisted their words to make ALF look like the bad guy.
Although from what I heard, the network WANTED to have a season 5, but the ratings didn't bring it back, sadly. Not to mention, what a huge hole that would leave in the plot, that the Alien Task Force now knows that ALF exists and that the Tanners have been keeping him from them.
The series should've ended with a mix of the finale and an episode where a friend of ALF's responds on Willie's radio, including ALF's girlfriend, and they ask that they'll be able to pick him up. But in the end, ALF stays.
ALF shoud've been caught up in their tractor beam right before the Alien Task Force would capture him! That would've been one of the best endings ever! XD

A belated thanks to you for such a lengthy comment and all that info!
We're in agreement that PROJECT ALF could have been done much better...and, I think, that a fifth season would have been preferable. This picture demonstrates my idea of a Plan B in lieu of those things: leave the majority of the movie as it is, if must be, but just add *something* to tie it to the series a little more. As is, the movie's not dreadful, it's just...meh!
