Dr. Cocoa is a Chirurgeon, a special kind of Alchemist doctor.
He started down that path in the church of Qi Zhong in Tian Xia. He developed a keen interest in using magic/medicine to help others, and figured out that he was going to need an education that would be hard to come by in Tien Xia. So, he left for the University of Lepidstadt in Ustalav to learn what else he could.
His close friend gave him the bag as a gift before he left, so he'd always remember them. The holy symbol of Qi Zhong emblazoned on the white bag in pure crimson a reminder of his upbringing and his goals, and the lives he's touched.
He graduated school, and felt that he wanted to do more with his education. He had heard of the Pathfinder Society: An adventuring group that ends up dealing with a lot of magic ailments and cures, so he's currently working there as a bit of a field medic. He's most famously known for killing a Trogolodyte in the basement of the wounded wisp with a thrown scalpel.
