My guess, is that Gemma's mom might have been accused of cheating, and she is the offspring of someone else, and this guy takes it out on her for it. The other scenario is that he is the step father, and is abusive to them, because he is..well..a dick. Could also be an uncle or another family member like a godfather, and Gemma's parents both uh.. kicked the bucket, forcing him to get legal custody even though he doesn't like kids.
Those are my theories :D

Okay Star/Gem, you have me in the edge of my seat. Between two different comics you're doing, I'm sitting here in suspense on what's going to happen in both of them I mean, hey, that's better than Bill Holbrook ever did for me! :p
Since, according to your comments, this isn't Souffle, I have to wonder who, or what, this is. Also, the previous comments about 'getting revenge for what you did to me' also piques my curiosity about what Gem might have done.
So, we see an 'image' of Souffle, that we already can guess isn't, but we don't know who, or what. Does the destroyed house have anything to do with this? I'm guessing it probably does, but I'll keep my thoughts to myself.
Thank you for keeping me interested.

It kinda hurts me how fathers are portrayed in fiction. They're always either abusive (either physically or verbally) or extremely stupid, fat, and lazy. Both of which are offensive to me and probably a huge reason why I'm too scared to become a father myself. There's so much negative portrayal about fathers out there, even in children's cartoons. I can't remember any off the top of my head but I remember watching cartoons as a child where the fathers are portrayed very negatively.
I understand that this is YOUR comic and YOUR story, and I know that being offensive is not in your personality. I kind of find this offensive. I'm not asking you to change anything, I'm just expressing my feelings and I'm sorry if my expressions hurt you. I'm personally scared of becoming a dad out of fear of becoming one of those "jerks" on television. We all have fathers, don't we? There is no one "normal" father-personality, and it hurts knowing that the media portrays them in such a mean-spirited light. Again, not saying you should change your comic, just pouring my heart out.
I knew something like this was coming based on the previous pages (like that "spider daddy" earlier) so I was kind of dreading this eventually where we meet "daddy" and he's a bad guy. Dads are not bad guys, they're humans no different than me. Anyway, that's all, thanks for listening. I'll continue to read "Found" because I'm a big fan. Thanks.

I don't know you, so I can't really know if what I'm saying will make a lot of sense or not. When I was young, fathers on television and in the comic strips were depicted as strong, loving people who were there for their families and supported them. If there was a family that didn't have a father, normally he had died. We didn't hear about 'divorce' and child abuse and things like that. That always happened to the other people
Gem also said earlier in the posts for this page that the 'image' we're seeing isn't Souffle, so obviously it isn't her father.
I don't know Gem, have never read her stuff until a few days ago when I started Shine and Found. However, I can't see that she would allow Gemma to be hurt. Either she will wake up (this is a dream, remember), or someone will rescue her from this 'memory.' Obviously not a 'memory' though.
I encourage you to continue to read on and find out what this thing really is, and maybe learn a bit more about Gemma's past I know that I plan on doing the same thing. :)

Just naming a couple where the dads are freakin amazing.....also whilst i know dads in things like simpsons, the amazing world of gumball, amiercan dad fit into what your saying about them being dumb bumbling fools, likewise whenever push comes to shove they pretty much always try they hardest and go above and beyond the call of duty for their family. thats what being a dad is all about, being there for your family despite your inadequacies, not giving up.
Anyway keep reading kay because you've kinda jumped to some conclusions that are gonna be cleared up pretty soon.

Fatherhood is difficult, but those who are worried about being a dad because on TV the father is usually not presented in a glowing light, well... That's life, really. A father is a man who cares for his children, who puts his family before himself, who is always there when he is required. Some TV dads deserve to be SAINTED (here's to you, Prof. Utonium) for how well they do in that regard.
To add to the list, I like the dad from Dexter's Laboratory too. And his mom fit's the stereotype of the controlling neurotic mom that you were talking about, but more self controlling, rather than controlling her kids. Also, in Mrs. Doubtfire Robin Williams' character was so dedicated to his kids, that he came up with one of the most creative ways of seeing them. With, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Uncle Phil when he's angry, he just makes you laugh, but when he means business, you only get the feeling that he's disappointed in his kids and nephew.King of the Hill, Hank is great to both his son Bobby, and his niece Luann. On The Flash Barry, aka the Flash, actually has two great father figures. His real father is in jail for the murder of Barry's mother that he didn't commit, and the man who raised him who's, the cop who was there for him on the scene after his mother's murder and is the father of his best friend/boyhood crush.
I just wanted to give my two cents (Do you guys say two pence in the UK?)

Hmm, I had a feeling things were too good to be true after that large chunk of ominous and scary. Rule one when traveling through the world of dreams: If you've escaped from a really bad predicament and into a place that seems really peaceful... be on guard.
Gem looks so happy in panel 2, she's adorable when she's happy. ;)
I'm guessing from the above comments that maybe her Uncle and her daddy are twins, but if so that would explain some things.
Still, you don't ever talk to a child that way. As painful as it might be to survive the next few pages, Gem is probably better off with such a poisonous person gone from her life. Lauren would crack him across the jaw for calling Gem a brat. She'd make sure her hoof print was on his @$$ too.
