I made this after following a tutorial on how to render a realistic planet. The planet was Earth, but I wanted to try and make my own.
So I made my own planet, attempting to mimic how the high resolution textures by NASA looked. This is NOT Earth. It actually doesn't have a name. Give it a name if you want.
Planets were something I always wanted to make, but never got to because wasn't good enough.
I made all of the textures myself from scratch. Took a bit of time and some tweaking.
I made them pretty big, but they are still half the size of the textures I had to use when following the tutorial, which were still half to a quarter of the original size!
The stars were an afterthought. Maybe I shouldn't have put them in, because they make the night side city lights look like stars.
As usual, don't steal, copy, edit, etc.
Want something, just ask. The RENDERING of the planet was a pretty simple tutorial anyway. The MAKING of my own planet (textures) was something I taught myself overnight.

Neat-o-deluxe. I've actually tried doing something like this before, but I simply just threw a NASA texture on a sphere with no "special effects" or anything. I just wanted to make something simple to use as a pre-rendered background for a 2D game and didn't want to use a photo. I wanted it "cheesy" looking, lol.
Thanks, I followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GLIbPKpgQ4
As for the textures, I made them myself, using the NASA pictures as a guideline for how they probably should look.
This could use some work, but for now I think it looks alright.
