Lowther Castle - Restoration Project

Visited Lowther Castle and we discovered that they are doing a restoration on the castle whilst being open to the public so we were able to see lots of people tooling around on diggers and tractors. Gorgeous place with a large garden and we agreed that the castle had a hint of Disney to it...

The restoration project has been running for a good 15 years now, the current plan from what i understand is for the castle ruins to be consolidated and protected from further damage. The gardens (50 acres in all) are to be restored to their former glory but the castle will not be fully restored.
The site is currently open to the public and they have stated another 10 years at least to restore the gardens, if you're ever in the Penrith area its well worth a look!
