I thought Family Guy had been getting soapboxy for years, but didn't realise it until now - a fake southpark. Although while south park will highlight several issues to satirise, even if the main plot is something of it's own, family guy just spreads jokes around the issue so Seth and the writers can give their opinions.

And the Brian thing was just... bizarre. It served no real narrative purpose at all. They devoted a whole episode to establishing it, but then did nothing until with it. Vinnie could have been a interesting replacement, but they didn't let him be that. The only reason they did it was to make news and get attention.

You could compare it to comics killing off superheroes to get attention... though those things can at least last 6 months to a year. The changes are felt in universe and lead to new story's of grief and life without them.

This was just:

Brian's dead.

Brians's still dead.

Brian's still dead... no wait, he's alive.

Seth McFarlene has actually admitted that he's trying to get the show cancelled.

Is that why he had Brian (temporarily) killed off?

Either that, or he did it as a rating's trap.

He was planning to have most of the Griffin's killed off or give their own personal stories closure. I think he was trying the same with American Dad! Seth from what I can tell is getting sick of his shows and the fanboys won't let him be happy and move on to other things.

It's obvious family guy is trying to channel it's own show, but why could he? I mean it's working well so far and it's been on for years, now he suddenly want's to throw it all away over some bullshit of Brian's death and revival, and not only that, cancel Cleveland's spotlight? Grow the fuck up seth. That's life, if you don't like it then go hire someone else to do family guy and see how that works. That's how i think anyway.

Maybe because he wants to do other things than the same show.

If that were true, then he should have done it sooner and make the final episode for from season 12 and stop it from there. But it's his funeral if he keeps going.
