Hrm, how would this work? Would it be under or on top of the
arm? And the 'switch' or mechanism, how would it be activated?

Pretty neat design none the less. (And excuse the constant questions.)

on top, it has the top hand guard to protect the top of the hand in general and from the blade
and its a mechanical spring to flip it back and forth
