*in process* Renzou cleaves the world lotus

I've kind of been doing quick/lame pinup-y sketches lately, so I figured I'd go for something a bit chunkier, imagery-wise. I've also noticed that the in-progress shots I post, I usually wind up posting at the same time as the completed image. That means any critique I get is kind of after the fact, at least in terms of fundamental, structural stuff already being set.
So, in an effort to address both of those issues, here's the basic rough sketch for a creation myth that never was. For my own sake, and for folks who may be interested in seeing my process, this will be a fun little experiment ^_^
So far, I've just been blocking in the figure -- so little of the rest of the scene is in place, there isn't much of a visual 'story' yet, per se.
Work has been pretty busy, so it may take me a while, but this has me interested, and I'd like to finish it up into something reasonably nice. I may well post further in-progress shots as events merit, and I'll be deleting or moving each step to scraps when the next/final goes up. As always, crit is welcome!

and this isn't the finished picture? Errr, wow!
By the way, I always thought ur pix was a squirrel on a tortoise... XD
And thanks! hopefully I won't kill it somewhere along the way...
I'm'a tell on you!!!
Compare that to the other texture I use ALL THE TIME that was like a present from google images... 9_9
I think on a circular sweep of the sword, it would probably break out of the left hand's grip at the end, just because it's swinging past the wrist's range of possible motion around the other arm. Regardless of correctness, I like the sort of flow of it, so while I'll be tweaking that other hand, to be sure, I'll probably leave it open and trailing. Facts be damned, right? ^_^
And yeah, *I'M* not even going to guess at the colors, either, hehe. I know better by now <3 Thanks for the comments, though, and it always helps!
And no on the blue spiky hair. Just no.
as for crit, i notice things after standing back & looking the piece over several times.
Just one thing for now. His right leg looks as though it's twisting at an odd angle. Also, the upper portion of his right leg seems a bit truncated, considering how far the knee is from the pelvis. If you want, play around with the anatomy & perspective in regards to that (i'm thinking one affects the other & vice-versa).
Or not... awesome peice o' work regardless (:
So long as you're having fun with it, all is well -__-
I've been using it over a decade by now, and I still learn new stuff all the time ^_^
also its great to be learning new things over time, because if we are stuck, then we are doomed XD
Not to be a sleaze bucket about it, but if you're curious about how I paint in Photoshop, I wrote a book about it that you can find here. If you're curious, you might check it out! If nothing else, it shows you how I work ^_^
The images in the book are all images I have up here:

None are what I'd call pornographic, but there's a decent bit of nude figure work, and definitely a bit of eroticism. I'd encourage you to take a peek at the images here and judge for yourself whether it's the sort of thing you'd be interested in or not ^_^ If they aren't too explicit for you, the book will explain various techniques and parts of my process in coming up with them.
Heh, sorry for the rant! If you do check out the book, let me know what you think! I hope it proves informative ^_^
Well, considering this is just the rough sketch, maybe you'll go for the finished piece when I get around to that ^_^
but then, I always comment on how wonderful your characters' facial expressions are.
