palisades wasp

Just trying to exorcise a song I've been stuck on for a while here.
I've totally listened to this track on infinite loop like 4 out of the last 10 nights. I suspect brain cancer.
Imagery courtesy of Sufjan Stevens courtesy of
Weazal.
Also, a shout-out to whomever took the google image photo of the wasp I shamelessly traced there. I am very grateful/sorry.
As soon as I'm not hammered with work, I'll do something that takes a lot fewer shortcuts. I just kinda needed to paint something tonight <3

so did the colours!!
also CUTE
That poor roo looks so broken, haha...
Yay Sufjan.
It's like toffeeeeee
That's a really adorable scene.
"I think we both know what's up between us. Let's not pretend anymore..." At least, that's the distinct impression I'm getting from the characters.
North of Savanna we swim in the palisades
I come out wearing my brother's red hat
There on his shoulder my best friend is bit seven times
He runs washing his face in his hands
Oh how I meant to tease him
Oh how I meant no harm
Touching his back with my hand I kiss him
I see the wasp on the length of my arm
(Sufan Stevens, "The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us!!")
<3
(Unless it's rrrough!)
btw you're a genius i envy your TALENT LIKE oh mygod i wish you could be my tutor
(Lazy.)
btw how do you say your screen name correctly? i say it "ka-mwee"
A lot of folks go for "kuh-MOO-ee" (the same reasoning, I guess, that has Americans pronounce karate as "kuh-ROD-ee") but it's basically a two-syllable name, with a slight bit more emphasis on the first than the second.
also the image is cute. :) what's has to do a wasp on it?
Leyendecker! awesome referece.
And the wasp is a reference to the song that inspired this, off of Sufjan Stevens' "Illinoise" album. It uses a wasp as a visual metaphor for the sting of first love, or of the fear of the pain of loss, etc. It's a very pretty song -- weazal posted a link to it in his comment <3
This is the best possible result I could have imagined from making the CD. Original art inspired by it? Dude, I'm in awe :)
Have you listened to any more of the Illinoise album? I just think if you like that one so much, you should check out what else that disc holds...
Avalanche is good...like a ridiculous amount of bonus tracks for Illinoise ;)
Watch out for Enjoy Your Rabbit - it's got a heavy noise influence and can be unlistenable.
When the season hits, RUSH to put on his Christmas albums...there's some originals that could become classics. Like "Come On! Let's Boogey to the Elf Dance!" is SO happy! Then "Did I Make You Cry on Christmas Day?" and "Sister Winter" are astoundingly beautiful.
Here's a hypothetical, say I start working on a serial of my own. Would you be willing to accept a commission to design a cover piece?
Just shoot me an e-mail or whatever, tiger <3
i love how you paint <:
I could stand to do a lot more work based off of models / photos / master paintings and maybe actually learn <3
but yeah i hate using references for things anyway, but its a really good way to learn so i need to start doing it too. i just need to spend more than 5 minutes on this furry business in general, but it's a privacy issue if you know what i mean..
I need to find a guy who'll model for me, really.
Quite a nice piece you have done here.
I was just over at your page, too. If you ever want to do a collabo-trade-y thing, just let me know, and I'd be theeere ^_^
Please read all previous comments to see the nice things I could say about this picture.
That song is so amazing-- and so gay. D: XP
And yeah, it's weirdly homoromantic for a Sufjan track, innit?
It's a pretty damn dense song, yeah. Lyrics are amazing. D:
Well, if Stuart Murdoch can do it, so can Sufjan Stevens. x3 (... Stevens is a helluva lot cuter than Murdoch, though..... >-> )
And now you've made me want to do a pic about "Seeing Other People." THANKS A LOT, JEEZ.
http://freakytrigger.co.uk/wordpres.....ads/sufjan.jpg How can a man be so adorable? Gah, I hope he's gay. XP
BEST ALBUM OF THE DECADE THUS FAR, I WOULD SAY.
10- Hail to the Thief- Radiohead (2003) 87
09- The Beginning Stages of...- The Polyphonic Spree (2002) 88
08- They Were Wrong, So We Drowned- Liars (2004) 90
07- Spiderman of the Rings- Dan Deacon (2007) 90
06- Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts- M83 (2003) 92
05- Drum's Not Dead- Liars (2006) 93
04- Kid A- Radiohead (2000) 95
03- SMiLE- Brian Wilson (2004) 95
02- Ys- Joanna Newsom (2006) 95
01-Illinois- Sufjan Stevens (2005) 96
...I like to make lists. D:
I know saying this'll get my lynched in some circles, but I never really got Thom Yorke. I respect what he does and all, but the aesthetic just never really clicked for me. Maybe if I listened to it enough, I'd learn to love it, I dunno.
I don't know exactly what would make my top 10, let alone in what order they would feature, but I can at least tell you it would also include Daft Punk's "Discovery," Ben Folds's "Rockin' the Suburbs," the Arcade Fire's "Funeral," and Death Cab's "Transatlanticism," so there's half the list, anyway ^_^ If we're talking "last 10 years" as opposed to "2000s," Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" is another easy in.
There are other and more recent albums I've drop-dead loved, but I kinda feel like I'd need to sit on them a few years and see how they hold up before entering them into the pantheon of a 10-year best of list <3
I can understand that... XP Some stuff is just kinda "lol, wut" but I dunno, I'm pretty fond of Hail To the Thief and Kid A. Amnesiac, The Eraser, and Pablo Honey can go in the corner and rot, though.
Rockin' The Suburbs is in my top-20. I've been meaning to give Daft Punk a more critical listen lately... And you are to Thom Yorke as I am to Win Butler... I just couldn't get into either of Arcade Fire's albums, except the first song on either of them, which I loved on both Neon Bible and Funeral, but the rest of both of those albums seemed so painfully mediocre... In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is one of the only five albums I'd give 100/100... XP
- The Beatles- The Beatles (1968) 100
- Indeterminacy- John Cage (1959) 100
- In The Aeroplane Over The Sea- Neautral Milk Hotel (1998) 100
- Bitches Brew- Miles Davis (1970) 100
- Black Saint and Sinner Lady- Charles Mingus (1963) 100
Yes. I have to do that too. You can only really measure the quality of something once it's been existing for a while. I've made a complete top-50 for the 1970s, though... But I gotta work in Faust's So Far now because I recently found out how goddamned amazing that album is.
And honestly, if you haven't really explored Daft Punk, sit down with a copy of Interstella 5555 and take in Discovery that way. I'm a big lyrics guy, and love me some indie/folk/etc. acoustic-y stuff, but if someone came up to me and said, "Daft Punk is the best band," I'd honestly have a pretty hard time refuting it ^_^ It's always nice to see electronic, rockin' music that totally stands up to scrutiny as honest to god music.
I tried listening to Homework a month or two back and I just couldn't manage it for some reason Out to try Discovery sometime soon, though. I like fucking everything, but as for lyrics: Bad lyrics can ruin a good song, and good lyrics can make a song a fuckload better. From what I have listened to more closely, I prefer Justice to Daft Punk. XP But dammit, I should make a point to finish up Discovery(of which I've only really listened to singles from) or something before I become sure of that. Honest-to-God electronic music, ad you put it, is great; Fuck Buttons, Vladislav Delay.
But as for best bands that I would have a hard time refuting: Velvet Underground, Beatles, Faust. XP
GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME GET IT
Nice job as always man!
I haven't you in ha while ):
this reminded me 'cause i went to the society of illustrators Leyendecker exhibit in NY. sooooooo nice.
His brother's work was there too, Fank X.
& an actual Mucha peice! My first time seeing a Mucha painting. Caught me off guard and i got a bit weak in the knees (:
Frank's stuff is great, but kind of gets lost in the shadow of JC's, I think. It's solid and interesting and beautiful, but it tends to lack that kind of divine spark of life, to my eye.
And holy wow, I'm sure a Mucha in the flesh is something to behold @_@
Yeah, i agree about Frank. It's solid work, but lacks that flow & sense of enjoyment in Joseph's paintings.
Also, Frank wasn't gay... 'nuff said :P
& yes, QUITE.
I wasn't gifted with the manic depression of the really great artists, but at least I've got the gay.
Not manic, but good gracious depression's one terrible feeling.
And i do love this artist
This is a phenomenal song, and album, and you did it justice perfectly! :,)
