ive been working on this with my free time lately. I plan to do the remaiden flight later this week if I can get my calculus teacher to understand that we have lives outside of homework. I think it's interesting to see the progression that this has made over the past year or two. It originally started out as a quadcopter (that's the four propeller drone-like aircraft for you non-RC hobbyists) and was controlled with a cheap flight control board that eventually fails in an epic manner. Then it sat hanging on the wall for a long time before I decided to turn it into a tricopter. I fried the GPS already, so I have to save up for that in order to do full autonomous flight, but I can still do most things without that part. I've also had the motors so hot that you could feel the heat radiating from two inches away, yet I've only had the hearings in one motor go bad this whole time. After I feel comfortable with this setup, I'll probably try to build a DIY antenna tracker which just points a highly directional antenna at the aircraft to get longer ranges. If I'm successful, I will put my FPV gear on this and fly from the pilots perspective.

You seen those collective pitch quads now? One motor in the middle drives a shaft, which divides out to the arms via belts like in a helicopter? Well most quads have a run time of like 10 minutes, imagine if you put a 4-stroke engine on that frame, the energy stored in nitro fuel is much higher than in a battery when compared to weight. Wonder how long flights we could achieve with a setup like that.
