Junkers Ju-52/3m in Lufthansa Livery
My latest complete digital creation, nearly ready for sale on second life. This is a Junkers Ju-52/3m in early Lufthansa Livery. The SL Specs are that is it a 94 LI aircraft, with no attatchments, and will be scripted for flight using a Laminar Systems flight engine. Paint is customizable by the user or third parties and the PSDs for it will be made avalable soon. plane has provisions for Pilot and full control for the copilot as well, and seats 12 passengers.
The real plane was a German trimotor transport aircraft manufactured from 1931 to 1952. It saw both civilian and military service during the 1930s and 1940s. In a civilian role, it flew with over twelve air carriers including Swissair and Deutsche Luft Hansa as an airliner and freight hauler. In a military role, it flew with the Luftwaffe as a troop and cargo transport and briefly as a medium bomber. The Ju 52 continued in postwar service with military fleets well into the 1980s. In civil service, it still flies commercially with Ju-Air in Switzerland, and with Lufthansa for special flights in Germany and the rest of Europe.

"Capt. Eric Brown, the well-known RAF pilot who spent most of his flying career evaluating the planes of other countries, confessed a particular affection for the venerable old lady. His reaction upon seeing the plane for the first time in 1936 was that it was an "...angularly ugly and incredibly cumbersome amalgam of corrugated skinning and trailing frappery...", and that when employed as a troop transport "...it must surely frighten its inmates silly." His opinion changed after spending time actually flying the plane, and experiencing the genuine fondness the Wehrmacht had for it, stating that he "...began to appreciate the fact that this transport had probably played a greater role in shaping the course of World War II than any other combat aeroplane.""
well there was/is a Ju-52/1m in Canada, with a single Rolls Royce Vulture. with a single engine it looks like a giant Junkers W33, especially with the little double portholes in the sides. The original was scrapped in the 50's (the fuselage ended up as a childrens play house), and the current one was cobbled together from a #m that was purchased in florida and flown to Canada for rebuilding, as it is representing a piece of canada's early aviation heritage, wityh the Flying Boxcar. (not to be confused with the later Fairchild C-119)
It depends on what you want out of second life whether you should re-install or not. since early 2013, the mesh tools and the advanced lighting have improved the look greatly, but since this is all user created material, there are places in SL that are backwaters, frozen in time, of stacked prims and dodgy textures. other places are as lush as 2006 high end concole games. characters have improved with mesh, but good mesh appears in the total collection of stuff, about at the same frequency as good art apprears in FA total. it's there, but you have to hunt or get referrals for it. Socially, there are a few more things to do, but it's much the same second Life it has always been, stand around and chat.
