I got a really rough Lionel prewar 1688E streamlined locomotive and did some work on it to get it going again. I had to replace the original prewar motor which I just could not get running. I had a beaten up 520 boxcab electric laying around whose guts fit into the shell and had spots to attach the drive rods. Then I replaced the prewar coupler on the tender with a postwar dummy coupler (that came off the 520) to pull modern cars.
The paint was rough so I repainted it with a flat black, silver, and metallic red scheme.
