Comish - Spring Thaw
~~~
Soft cell shaded commission with a full background done for
Virion Stoneshard of his scalesona, Virion, enjoying a serene moment in a small canyon in the woods as the winter's last snow melts around him~
I'm quite happy with how this one turned out. Shading an orange and beige dragon with teal and blue presented a unique challenge, but it was a lot of fun! I learned quite a bit on this piece too. I really like how the background turned out as well, and I especially like where the mossy/grassy foliage meets the creek. Also, I learned how to waterfall!
Also, little glowy buggies, because I couldn't resist. :B
Thanks a lot, Vir! Hope you like it!
I'm actually inspired a lot by Middle Eastern art, especially during the golden years of the Islamic empire, into the High Middle Ages, and especially Orientalism. It really intrigues me. (The Middle Eastern and Islamic inspiration is more evident in my scalesona, Muzafr's design and backstory. ^^ )
I also grew up with Jurassic Park and watching the movies and admiring all of the scientific illustrations in the dozens of Dino books I always had, so I like to make fantasy creatures appear as realistic and believable as I can, also. I really like science and biology and paleontology, and comparative anatomy across evolution and various species. I just find it all really fascinating.
So in short, these two things kind of mix into a semi-realistic-surreal-fantasy-background-of-the-Orient, if I can abbreviate it as such, haha.
