"Throwaway Gag: Sphinx" [old]

Once again, as a result of scavenging through the clutter in my condo, I'd found another old illustration of 'Rob Cat' - Circa 1991, when I was still living in Elmont, New York. Around that time, my mother Sheila Martinez was working at C.W. Post (and on the verge of retirement from the university).
She was working as the secretary for Dr. Bob Brier, a well-known Egyptologist (who has appeared on numerous TV documentaries about King Tut, mummies, the pyramids, and other Egyptian things). In August, 1991, Dr. Brier was hospitalized, and was diagnosed with a mild(?) case of kidney stones (that needed to pass).
When Mom told me about this, I immediately began to draw a handmade card with a 'get well' message for Dr. Brier. Specifically, the inside illustration was in the form of a kidney-shaped cartouche (an ancient form of Egyptian jewelry) with the words "Get Well" translated into traditional hieroglyphics...
Of course, I couldn't resist adding a few puns to the imagery. For example, I had my 'alternate feline fursona' (from my "Front & Back" comic gags) wearing a T-shirt that reads "TOMB It May Concern"...
And, on the back of the card, I'd rendered an illustration of my bobcat 'fursona' made up like the Sphinx, and using a pun I recall hearing many years ago - in an old "Beany & Cecil" cartoon from the early 1960s. (The cartoon series was created by Bob Clampett, a former Warner Bros. animator who [back in the 1930 and 1940] use to produce the zaniest animated shorts in the world!)
BTW, Dr. Bob Brier is still alive, and I usually E-mail him lots of 'Egyptian gags' from various syndicated comic strips.

the sphinx is the oldest landmark near Cairo, Egypt
So this idea was inspired by your mummy? ;)

In some ways, Captain, you could say that my RL 'mummy' had taken the 'wrap' for it - since she worked for Dr. Brier. She'd also supplied me with the hieroglyphics for the "Get Well" message, not to mention a set of rubber stamps with various pictures (figures and symbols) used to convey said message...
