Nari is a Cornet princeling, a small, bipedal species known for their unusual, magical connection to nature. Their horns, which come in a wide variety of shapes, give them a small bit of magical ability which they can use to commune with nature. They have long tassels of hair that come from their ears; the length of these tassels usually indicates either age or wisdom. Cornets live in tribes of males, females, and a hermaphroditic third gender. Each tribe has a "prince" born randomly among them - leadership is not hereditary , but rather the tribe follows any Cornet born with a golden horn. Mysteriously, these gold-horned Cornets are always hermaphroditic and can act as male or female in reproduction.

Nari is his tribe's prince, hermaphroditic but male in body. His particular ability allows him to revive wilting plants and crops. Despite being the tribe leader, he enjoys exploring and loves to wander the nearby forests and even towns (much to the chagrin of his tribe, who send daily search parties after him).
